2 weeks and 2 days since my last rad treatment. Even my socks are too big for me, but today I ate my first normal size serving of breakfast since!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There really is life after radiation woohoo. I celebrated by driving myself to the barber shop and getting a haircut. Still 37f degrees outside, but darn if I'm not feeling hopeful, getting my legs back too.

I know, you go through a lot of strange feelings, ideas, and thoughts after the treatment regimen. Doing small things then just seemed like such a Blessing and even the smallest things have so much meaning. I had a pretty heavy-duty treatment and was beaten up pretty badly and one of the things I struggled with for a long time was getting my confidence back to do things. Especially if it was detailed or a bit complicated. Raking leaves is pretty straight forward but running a new water line in the house with various fittings or repairing a complicated piece of equipment with a lot of parts requires some thought and planning and possible trips back and forth to the hardware store. So glad you are on the return to regular life and feeling good and feeling hopeful. Take care, God Bless-Russ

Hello Everyone
21 down 14 to go! 2 Chemo infusions down 1 to go.
Hubby update . It’s a hit and miss on what he can taste…even though he can taste anything sweet. No swallowing problems…throat started getting a little sore two days ago. But no other mouth issues.
Nausea from Chemo is minimal with good meds keeping it in control.
Lots of fatigue but still keeping very positive.
Hope everyone is doing well. Goods thoughts sent your way.

Hello, Marie, so glad things are going as well as possible for your husband.
Fatigue is a big part of this treatment, it beats you up.
But his positive attitude will counteract that.
All is good here following your husband's progress.
And a supportive wife like you helps make all the difference.
He is Blessed.
Wishing You Folks the Best
Take care, God Bless

Hello…
Just a quick check in to see how everyone is doing and to share my husbands journey.
So hard to believe that he is done with Chemo and only 4 more Radiation treatments left. The last post I made was on February 16th and Praise God…my husband has had no change in side effects or additional side effects. He is still eating..sore throat is not everyday and Tylenol takes care of that. No dry mouth, no sores,no mucus issues, no skin redness or issues. So the only issue is loss of taste which he is dealing with. I do lather on the lotion for his neck and he did lose his facial hair, but we will take that!
The mass is almost completely gone and the doctor said areas of his throat are already healing.
His Kidney number is not where it should be so he is having IV hydration everyday, but his last labs were better on Friday so again Praise God!
The doctors and nurses said they have never seen a person go through this with hardly no side effects. I had bought so much stuff to be prepared for anything that might be sent his way…he really hasn’t had to use any of it.
Prayers Work!
Blessings to you all.💜

Marie, I am so glad everything is going so well for your husband, and my how time flies. As I read through your description and the minimal side effects I was thinking my I have never seen so few and light side effects in a H&N person and when I got to the end i see your docs and nurses feel the same way. All I can say is "Praise God" he is Blessing you folks greatly and as the good book says even more and beyond anything we can imagine. When all is said and done maybe you can donate your extra supplies to the cancer center or a local cancer support.
So glad for your husband and you as the caretaker this makes for lees stress and easier on all.
Take care, God Bless-Russ
There is an organization in my general area that can be donated to that takes medical supplies and I have let my speech therapist know about it and she is organizing a program in her hospital to save items from disposal and moving them on to help others. Link below as an example maybe people can find similar organizations in their area.

I am so happy for you two. All I hear from the nurses, techs and therapists is how us H&N patients get it the worst so it is refreshing to see not everybody has to suffer. That healing is already happening during radiation is truly amazing. hearing this lightens my heart.

Hi MarieO, It's been 5-6 weeks since my last rad treatment. The first couple weeks were rough and I still need to add 10-15 lbs. My saliva is mostly gone as is my sense of taste. My saliva was pretty damaged by surgery and radiation, they say, can also do permanent damage there, but the Dr's say my taste should come back. Thanks for asking. I don't regret choosing surgery over chemo, but I'm starting to wonder if the surgery makes the radiation side effects worse? I'm taking a vacation after my ct in April, figure my wife and I earned it

I've been stuck at -35 lbs for the last 2 0r 3 months and my eating has been pretty good. Today I went to GNC and bought Mass XXX, each shake is 800 calories! I just started today and my goal is to get from 140 to 160 lbs. The stuff is pricey at $75. for 13 servings, but I haven't been able to gain by drinking a boost with every meal and that stuff ain't cheap either. I'll start with 1 a day and see how it goes. will update.

Good to hear from you! Gaining weight has been an issue for my husband because his taste is still pretty much gone..but with that said this last week has been pretty good and he is drinking at least 2 Boosts a day. He has his mind set to eat even though he can’t taste. So gained 2 lbs this week! He had lost a total of 25.
The not so good news is that the Chemo took a toll on his kidneys and he has been going in for infusion hydration everyday. Traveling everyday is getting tiring for him. Lab results tomorrow.

Hello, Marie, glad to hear you and your husband are doing well. Sorry, the treatment was hard on his kidneys and I hope the infusions get this straightened out. It seems we can get treatments for cancer but they have their own issues at times. I know it is tough I have been there with no taste and had to just force food down to at least make sure I had the daily calories I needed. It is so difficult to eat with zero taste. What he is doing is working since he has gained two pounds back. Forward we go. Hang in there.
Wishing You the Best
Take care, God Bless-Russ

I had my 12 month check up last week. Dr put the scope up my nostril and said i looked clear. After surgery and radiation my neck was numb from ear to ear and while there's still some odd feeling places I've gotten much of the feeling back+1. Saliva is still an issue, but also improving, taste is close to 50% and I'm eating great, slower than normal, but still I can eat nearly all I could b4+. Fatigue is getting better and i'll go on 400+ mile a day adventure motorcycle rides. I'm still lanky while I was always athletic before radiation, but I'm able to exercise and even my fitness is returning, legs have a really long way to go. I have a pension so when my health hit some speed bumps I retired at 62, 2 years ago. This last year has been a marathon with traces of anxiety that all the work would be for nothing and the C would just return, but tbh focusing on healing mostly kept the dark thoughts away. I'm grateful for this last year, consider it bonus and will remain grateful for every day I wake up this side of the dirt.
I hope the rest of you are managing recovery with lots of good days mixed in.
