finished treatment today!!! I got a coin and got to ring a bell, kinda like buying a harley, lol. Dr says i'll probably feel worse for a week b4 things settle down, says skin will heal first and i'll start feeling much better in the 2-4 week period. Have I mentioned how much respect I have for the people doing this work?

Thank you for the kind words. I’m sitting here waiting for him as he’s in treatment. So far minimal effects from chemo and nothing yet with radiation. But we are working on getting him prepped mentally and physically for the upcoming weeks. He has had a little fatigue, but now that weather is better..walks outside are good.

I honestly appreciate this group so very much. Blessed♥️

    Thank you Russ

they aren't lying when they say 'you keep cookin' for a week, and the fatigue really set in the last 3 days of treatment. I'm so grateful my dr made the last 5 treatments proton because imrt/igrt is BRUTAL in comparison. In fact I feel like my first 25 treatments broke me. This last 5 days has been lots of laying around resting and finding energy to eat. Doing my swallowing exercises as long as I could helped me avoid the feeding tube and i'm already eating some solids, eggs, chicken soup, beef stroganoff w/rice last night. Just sayin', It will likely get worse b4 it gets better (how much will depend), but I tried to stay focused on the future and not the present, and those last 2 weeks Dr's and nurses are so compassionate that their love alone will get you thru.

I live a sober life with my wife so I paid attention after week 4 when she recommended thc edibles to help with the pain. Dr and nurses weren't onboard week 4 but by week 5 they were like "whatever you can do to get relief do it" and I found some that really balanced my dependence on the oxy. A conversation for You, your hubby and Dr.

    Steven…

You seem to be doing so well..extremely happy to hear!! And you’re eating! Staying so positive is key. Hubby does have the feeding tube but is wanting try and not use. His ENT doctor has been so encouraging. Actually all the doctors, nurses, techs are awesome.

Keeping focused on the future is exactly what we’re doing. I pulled out the calendar and said “Look at this small part of the whole year…7 weeks plus recovery? We’ve got this!”

Re the edibles..I asked about that on first consult. Doctor said he has no problem with whatever works and helps. Which kind did you use?

Steven I know I keep repeating myself…but thank you so very much. You and everyone else here are such an inspiration and proof that even though it may not feel like it on the bad days…there is an end to all this craziness.

You are right Steven that IMRT is a really tough customer. Reminds me of my treatment 35 of them and I remember I was so tired and exhausted for a couple of weeks during recovery that if I wanted to get anything done I had to keep moving and get it done because if my rear end hit a chair I was sleeping.

Marie glad you are taking notes and you will be well prepared to help hubby through this with strong support.

ENCORE, edibles. I went with dark chocolate and sea salt as my friend and store both recommended. I was so sensitive to sugars that the dark chocolate was a no brainer for me. At the store I told them I hadn't really imbibed since the early 80's and they were very patient explaining how to use the product.

Today is 2 weeks to the day from my 30th and last round of radiation. I can't believe how tired I am. pain is subsiding, but at the same time so is my tolerance for pain. Ready to start living again.

Time seems to go by fast for those of us looking in…but for you probably not fast enough. You’re home…no more treatments..that is such a good thing.

At the end of this week my husband will be half way through. Some of his taste is gone.. but hasn’t gotten to the other side effects yet. Just taking it day by day.

    Take Care Steven

I hope your husband is still in relative comfort, it hits each of us a bit different. I know my wife has been doing everything for the last month and i wouldn't have gotten through without her.

Today is his 15th…so far just loss of taste..but still can taste sweet stuff.

His Chemo dose was lowered as his Creatinine number went up…so now Hydration infusions 3 times a week as well.

    We love our men!

Steven it is amazing 2 weeks have gone by already. I remember the tiredness, really sometimes feels like exhaustion. The days will go by and before you know it some day you will get up and feel somethiong different and say to yourself, you know I just don't feel as bad or tired today, somethings different. Then you will know you turned the corner. So glad your pain is subsiding you are on your way to recovery.

    Wishing You the Best

Marie this is a normal progression of things. This is when it gets tough to keep eating especially when it gets to the point of absolutely no taste. Then you have to just eat and force the number of calories in that you need to maintain your weight. It sounds like you have a good medical team monitoring your husband closely. Thanks for mentioning the love of a wife, such a blessing and more so when you are also our caretaker/supporter through this journey. Many a fellow has a wonderful wife to thank for getting them through this brutal treatment including me. There are also wives that were on the cancer side and their husbands were right there for them also.

    Carry on-Stay Strong

    Wishing You the Best

    Take Care God Bless

Thank you so much for keeping in touch.

Hubby is keeping so positive about the eating. He can’t taste but he’s still eating…he gained weight this week!
