Trying to get medical help in Florida
Trying to get help for very good friend. She had lympnoids removed from neck, radiation pill treatments twice. Test results were looking good, numbers strayed going up. Scan showed 4 spots 1 lung 5 spots another lung. New blood work Sent to specialist who list her blood work said come back in six month. Got new blood work set appointment after 2 weeks, GP not available set apoint out another 4 weeks. Is there some cancer treatment group in Florida, hopefully Orlando area, if not no big deal. Where, she can call directly and set an appointment. I'm from Washington State and there are a few very solid institutes I can contact directly. Anyone who can help please offer suggestions. Thank you.

Where are you in process and how is it going?
I had left lung removed at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa and can't rave enough about how wonderful they were. I was not happy with my options in Western North Carolina so I researched hospitals all over the country and chose Moffitt, I called on a Monday morning. They gave me a patient number before noon. They called the next day with an appointment for the following Monday with a surgical oncologist. Within 3 weeks of the original call I had my surgery.
I'm hoping you have found a wonderful hospital and your friend has progressed, but will be glad to talk more if you like.

Hello Haus,
I am 3 years post diagnosis for stage 4 NSCLC in both lungs and brain metastasis very advanced. I am doing very well considering. It's been 3 years 4 months since diagnosis and have been off the 2 years of Keytruda Immunotherapy infusions for 1 year and 4 months. No chemotherapy. I also was treated at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa and live east of Orlando. I would recommend this location and all cancer centers have and offer financial support. I truly believe that its critical to go to a top Cancer Center or the best possible provider to get the best treatments, trials, and new therapies. I was very lucky!! I hope you find the resources that are best for survival.

Janie1234 is right. It is critical to go to cancer center with lots of experience and Moffitt in Tampa is one of the best around.

Janie1234 also, thank you for all the info you shared! I just found my lung cancer Feb 2022 and it's so reassuring to hear from someone who is still hanging in there.
Thank you!

Hi CB survivor 13 and Haus,
Happy my story can help others. I hope Haus has seen the posts. I'm new to CSN and still getting educated on the web site navigation.
Haus,
I like CB Survivor 13 had an appointment at Moffitt one day after contacting them and they completed the biopsy, genetic test and the first infusion within 3 weeks. In addition, there are a lot of cancer resources out there including free rides to treatments for patients. So, I hope your friend can choose a cancer provider where distance is not a decision factor. Please update us as you can. All the best to you!
Thank you!!

Really appreciate your response, I did mention Moffit to her. She got her blood work again and her tumor markers are up from 110 6 weeks ago to 150. I don't know what this means. She was told she has to go through a process to get a biopsy. She wasn't sure if her insurance would cover another PET scan but her GP had a "Pier to Pier" with the someone and the insurance company approved the PET Scan. Scheduled for 1/30. After she has the PET scan , I'm told she can get a Biopsy to determine what type of cancer she has. The last scan revealed 4 spots on 1 lung and 5 spots on another.
I will talk to her again about Moffit. I would love to get her up to the Swedish Cancer Institue in Seattle, I'm told they have 3 of the best Oncologist in the country. My paranoia is not knowing what to do! I wonder if she could request her GP to refer her to Moffit or do they take insurance. What is the cost of getting her involved at Moffit? What kind of payment plans? I will reach out to them.
Thanks again for taking the time to respond!
