Chemo & Hives
Hello - I'm currently receiving Taxotere and Cytoxan chemo for breast cancer. I receive the infusions every three weeks. Approximately two weeks after my second chemo infusion, I had experienced a terrible case of hives. I was administered a steroid regimen (methylprednisolone 4mg) over the course of 6-days which seemed to be working for at least the first three days. As of day 5/6, the hives started to appear in new places. I was subsequently placed on hydroxyzine which did nothing and I'm now on a second steroid treatment of prenidsone 10mg for another 6-days. I'm told by my oncologist the hives are probably not related to the chemo treatment because of the timing of the outbreak. My internist is suggesting otherwise. Has anyone else experienced hives throughout chemo treatments and if so, what helped you get through the chemo hive-free (if there is such a thing for me!). Thank you.

I didn't actually have hives however I suffered from alot of itchy, red, irritated skin mostly on face and neck. I used a body wash and face cleaner called Cerave. It helped some. Try not using any perfume soaps or lotions on affected areas. The crave brand is a little pricey but it was recommended to me by my cancer center nurses.
