Scanxiety Over--The Results Are In

I am not only posting my latest update as informative and celebratory but as a positive message to all those in treatment and out of treatment and to all my fellow brothers and sisters of the H&N cancer experience that there is an end to treatment, though it seems far away at times there is always hope and you can beat this and find Blessings in each new day.

NEGU (Never Ever Give Up)

My latest Good news is I have gotten the all-clear for any and all tests this year.

God has greatly Blessed me, I give him all the Glory and Praise.

Saw my ENT in the middle of last month for scoping and checkup and came away with the all-clear no problems found and also extending the time I see him from 3 months to 6 months. Also, he put a referral in for me to see a vocal cord specialist to see if there is anything that can be done about my paralyzed left vocal cord. So that will just be a consultation to see if and what the possibilities are and the possible percentage of success it may carry.

This week I got CT Scans with contrast of the H&N area and the chest.

The report just back never saw this comment of Woohoo!!! on a docs report before but they are familiar with me and my case and I like the Woohoo!!! concept.

CT SOFT TISSUE NECK W CONTRAST

Comments from the Doctor's Office

CT neck looks good as well. Woohoo!!!

IV CONTRAST: 80mL Isovue 370

FINDINGS:

Partial LEFT glossectomy. No findings of locally recurrent neoplasm.

LEFT neck dissection. No pathologic cervical lymph nodes by imaging criteria.

Stable post-therapeutic changes in the LEFT neck with loss of fat planes and chronic laryngeal edema.

No focal mass of the major salivary glands.

No dominant thyroid nodule.

CT CHEST W CONTRAST

Comments from the Doctor's Office

No concerning new findings Russ!

Impression

1. Resolution of previously seen LEFT lower lobe infiltrate. Stable subpleural groundglass opacity in the LEFT upper lobe dating back to 12/3/2020. RIGHT middle lobe scarring, also stable.

2. Stable small LEFT lower lobe pulmonary nodules.

3. No suspiciously enlarged thoracic lymph nodes. Shotty subcentimeter retrocrural lymph nodes are unchanged.

FINDINGS:

VESSELS: Normal caliber.

HEART AND MEDIASTINUM: No pericardial effusion. Coronary artery calcifications.

LYMPH NODES: No pathologically enlarged lymph nodes. Shotty subcentimeter lymph nodes are noted in the retrocrural region. Surgical clips are also noted in the retrocrural region. Findings are unchanged from prior.

LUNGS AND PLEURA:

* Subpleural groundglass opacity in the LEFT upper lobe is unchanged. Curvilinear scarring in the RIGHT middle lobe is also unchanged. Patchy groundglass infiltrate in the LEFT lower lobe has resolved

* Stable 4 mm nodule in the LEFT lower lobe (-299.3)

* Stable 4 mm nodule in the LEFT lower lobe (-374.3)

* No pleural effusion or pneumothorax. Mild biapical pleural parenchymal scarring.

I am not sure what some of this means, but there is some scarring and things are not perfect but then again I never was and at my age, things got some wear on them. I do have some nodules on my left lung and a renal cyst but they are all stable at the present and are being watched with scans like these.

I also got complete litany of blood tests this week and they came back as all good.

Result Status: Final result-Your blood work is stable.

And on top of all of it I got Beer with it, Dr. Beer that is, Ordered by Timothy Beer, MD

Wishing everyone here on CSN continued success in your cancer journey and many NED’s (No Evidence of Disease) Ahead.

I would be remiss here also if I did not mention a myriad of skilled and faithful doctors, nurses, surgeons, rehabilitation people and so many more they are literally countless and treated me with love, respect, and dignity. When I think back there were so many I couldn’t begin to personally remember them and thank them all. But I have no complaints as they all gave their best to assure their patient the best possible success. There are some who stick in my mind of their special help that got me through some of the worst of times. But they all were great and I can't thank them enough.

So I stand and give tribute to all the healthcare workers that devoted their skills to my care and success!

Wishing You The Best

    Russ,

Congrats on that great news! Hope you can find a way to celebrate, and then get on with your 'new normal' life and put HNC far in the rear view mirror. You are one of the best citizens this community has, so keep staying in touch.

Russ, Got my scan results today. The little 3 mm nodule I had on my right lung, is still there, but has not gotten any bigger. So should be good for another year. One more year of scanxiety gone.

Hey, Dave, that's great I am glad to hear another good report. Hopefully, these nodules we got will just stay put and never increase in size or get active in some way. Right on Dave Scanxiety is gone for another year.

    Russ,

I passed my Oncologist, ENT guy and just got my results from a PET Scan, 5 days ago.

    Russ,

It's always a relief to get the great news - for both of us - and anyone else, who just had a good scan!

I've appreciated your help through both my good times ... and the bad!
