Bad reaction to my last Oxiplatin infusion
I knew beforehand that the last infusion, yesterday, wasn't going to be easy. Had no idea how bad:0( Was only able to take a third of the bag before a few hives, severe lower abdominal pain, and profusely sweating. Took about an hour and a lot of Benadryl and passing out for 30 minutes before I woke and felt better.
Hope it won't hinder my success rate too much?! But I won't miss those infusions at ALL! My veins are so bruised and sore from that drug. I really wanted to avoid the port, just a personal choice that my oncologist gave me.
Now full pelvic radiation starts in a few weeks. Hope y'all are well and if you read this far...then I bid you a goodnight:0)

The Port can be your good friend. It is so easy to access, you barely feel a thing. It is a constant reminder of Cancer, but then, Cancer is a constant reminder. I would not hesitate to have another port. Just saying!
I am sorry for your reaction. That can be really scary. When I was on life flight to the big city, they gave me Nitro Glycerine and I immediately had a reaction. I was strapped and wrapped tight on a gurney, and it was a awful, because I couldn't move, and I wanted to throw up and I was sweating profusely. Allergic reactions are REALLY scary. I am glad you got through yours OK and I hope it doesn't happen again.
Good luck with the radiation.

My wife had an allergic reaction to oxaliplatin on her fifth infusion. Side effects were rough but the agent was very effective against her cancer; as the oncologist noted, results were remarkable. She went on to Folfiri which made her miserable and was not as effective. Folfori is no longer working and disease is progressing. She is going to go back to Folfox with the sensitivity team. Who knew that was possible? As much as I hated Folfox I am glad she has the opportunity to try it again. I hope to see her CEA plummet once again. It is rising and it is heartbreaking.

I had that same issue. It was during my mop up chemo after resections. I believe the switch to Folfiri and its ineffectiveness is why instead of being "cured" i had a recurrence right away. I believe using the desensitization protocol with folfox would have killed all the microscopic cells. I went on the desensitization protocol for folfox after my recurrence.

Found this article the other day. Complimentary TCM for cisplatin based chemo.
