ABUS - Automated Breast Ultrasound
Hello,
I am a member of the salivary gland forum for a pleomorphic adenoma I had renoved last year.
I have always had negative mammograms yearly but now they are recommending ABUS for woman with dense breast tissue. I had my last mammo in November of last year (normal) but they recommended the ABUS because my breasts are heterogeneously dense. I know this test can produce a lot of false negatives due to technican operation and the way the transducer is placed on the chest etc. Many articles
I got my results today and they want me to follow up with additional imaging with diagnostic ultransound. Left breast was normal. On the right it said there is a possible mass VERSUS artifactal shadowing at 10:00, 7.5 cm from the nipple.
Has anyone else experienced this with an ultrasound and needed additional imaging? I don't want to be freaking out here at work.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Chiswick, I went for an ABUS for the first time this fall because of dense breasts and they found a 7mm IDC that was not picked up on the mammo. I did the ABUS and then had to go back for diagnostic, which led to a US biopsy. I believe your prescription is very common occurrence.
