Tall Cell Papillary cancer
So I had the thyroid and lymph node surgery (lateral neck dissection) 9 days ago. 36 L-nodes examined-6 had cancer and removed. Largest 2cm. TCV found along with Papillary carcinoma, and other variant.
I am guessing TCV is not good, more aggressive, hard to eliminate, could migrate. Wondering what to expect. I know I'm getting the Nuclear pill in 6 weeks. Not worried much, I'm 75 but mostly curious.

I am in the same boat. I havegpaek said:tall cell
I just had half of my thyroid removed and i was devastated to find out that the pathology report indicated the type be tall cell. Tumor was only 1cm on the left lobe. As per report no Vacular invasion, no Extrathryroidal invasion, no lymph nodes sybmitted or found. Prognosis scares me. Any input will be apprecaited. I am male 55 year old ftaher of 3 living in Brooklun NY.
Surgeon proposed either close really close ups or remove the rest of the thyroid. My thinking is that we always need to follow up. Should I proceed with surgery to remove the other half and get iodine or wait and decide based on results of follow ups ? Thanks
I am in the same boat. I have high confidence in my doctors. In my case, I had surgery on April 24 and they want to wait about 6 weeks and then have me go back to hospital for the radioactive iodine thing. It sounds reasonable. Besides, it is painless I hear. Then, after some amount of time, CT scans to see if any remaining cells. Tall Cells have the reputation of being hard to clear out. That's just what I've read, nothing official from my team. But I expect to get to go over this in detail with my Oncologist soon. They say they will continue checking blood and scanning until they are satisfied it is all gone. Then, regular checkups, at 3 months, then 6 months, then annually or semi-annually forever.
Hope this helps. I am 75. Otherwise, good health. Will say a prayer for you.
