Biopsy or not. Burn or freeze?

in Kidney Cancer #1

Hello, I am 42 years old and accidently found a lession on my left kidney. I have been refferred to a Urologist to resolve (kidney specialist) I have spoke with 2 different urologist. They both say its in a tough location to cut out. The first said that it looks like renal cell carcinoma 17mm and recommends that we biopsy then burn it with RF Ablation. He says due to my age we dont want to watch it and suggest the even a benign lession can grow. 

 

My second opinion urologist say it looks like carcinoma to him. That its perfectly round so it looks like a less aggressive cancer. He want to send me to a radiologist to have chryo ablation. The radiologist says its safer to chryo becuse its under the pee line and more forgiving on the tissue. She does not want to biopsy. Says that its risky for hemmorage. So I dont know what to choose. Shouldnt I be reffered to cancer doctors? Anyone have experience with this?

    Its small. There can be differences of opinion.

    Go with the Uro are most comfortable with. Ask them about  there surgical experienced with Kidney Cancer and wjy they think their approach is better. Maybe get a tthird opinion.

    Mine was biggrt 19 yeas ago. The iotions presented to you were not available then. There is no right or wromng answer.

    biopsies are not acommon practise in kidney tumors. Previously it was believed that biopsy can result in tumor spread. As I understand, this view is not proven. But still, as long as overwhelming majority of solid tumors in kidneys are malignant, approach to “cut it out first and then study” is the most effective. 

    Surgery is the best way to proceed. Burn or freeze won’t give you a histology to understand what it is, and won’t give you the negative margins as proof that doctor “got it all”.

    Your tumor is very small, you have time for third or even fourth opinion, perhaps you can find an experienced surgeon to cut it out?

    Thank you for the share. In my case its close to my spine. Its in an akward location. So oir only option is to get a needle in to burn or freeze.

    Has anyone ever heard of recurrence or spread of a 12mm clear cell kidney tumor. Grade 1 stage pt1a with no vascular invasion?

    surgery was June 2017, had last ct on September 2020 which was clear.

    urologist said very unlikely it will come back


    anyone know any stats?

    After getting a 4th and 5th opinion, I did find 2 different doctors who are skilled enough to cut out the lession. Thank you to those who gave solid advice!!!

    Thank you so much. You were correct. Differnent people have different skills. I have found 2 specialist who are trained on partial nephrectomy for lessions in my location.

    Hi, just wanted to share, this last Oct, I had an CT Ablation on my one and only right kidney to try to destroy a 2 cm renal cell tumor, It worked, just received my results after scan, and everything looks great. My kidney is functioning great. Praise the Lord.

    Do hope you have success and great results.
