Bi Rads 5

in Breast Cancer #1

Hey everyone. I'm usually over on the Uterine cancer discussion board, as that's what I've got. My best friend just had a Bi rads 5 result on a mammogram. For sure cancer, right? Anyone else have a Bi rads 5 and can share info?

    I had birads 4.  Then I had

    I had birads 4.  Then I had biopsy and MRI.  I ended up having DCIS and IDC and recently had double mastectomy, taking Tamoxifen.  My DCIS was extensive but the IDC (invasive ductal carcinoma) was smaller then the DCIS.  Everyone is different, but it definitely leans more towards having cancer I think.  What did your friend's DR say about it?  I'm also sorry to hear your friend is going through that.  Please let us know what happens and how she is doing.  You seem like a good friend to have as you care.  

    I have a hx of uterine cancer years ago.  Do you have a hx of uterine cancer?  Good luck to your friend and thanks for reaching out here.  I hope more people reply.

    So grateful you responded--thank you

    I will check back in tomorrow and write. I was personally diagnosed with endometrial adenocarcinoma in mid Janury of 2021, and have surgeries and radiation. I'm at high intermediate risk for recurrence. 

    My friend is currently in the process of being diagnosed. I can tell you a lot about uterine cancer, but don't know much about breast cancer---yet.

    That's how I was...could tell you lots about uterine ca!  I had to learn a whole new ball game when I found out I had BC.  I had endometriall adenocarcinoma as well.  Robotic radical hysterectomy and didn't have to have any more treatment.  I was early stage obviously and went into immediate surgical menopause.  Later I was put on hormone therapy for the menopause symptoms and stayed on it for many years which probably played a part in getting bc.  Who knows though,  I'm sure it didn't help. 

    I'm sorry you had to go through all that treatment and surgeries.  I hope you are NED now and feeling well?  Best wishes to you and your friend.

    I'm NED at this point...

    ...but high intermediate risk of recurrence, and I often feel like I'm living on borrowed time. That's okay. I'm dealing with it I had Grade 1 (whew!), but Stage 1 C with some poor prognostic factors--namely, LVSI and myometrial invasion of 83%. It could have been worse. I was told by my first rad onc that I was "close" to being diagnosed with Stage 3 or 4. Interesting how you can go from zero to sixty so quickly with cancer.

    I'm hoping my friend can get her BC taken care of as completely and painlessly as possible, and of course, I'm very sad that she will be suffering emotionally, as we all do with a diagnosis. It's just the worst, really. I would say that the initial call back and waiting game between biopsy and surgery decision is about the hardest time.

     I'm sorry to hear that about living with high intermediate risk and that you had LVSI with myometrial invasion.  That must have been pretty scary to hear that.  I couldn't agree with you more about waiting for the call back!  I realize i escaped a much worse DX.  Just happened to catch it early.  I wish you the best!

    BI-RADS 5 meaning

    Bi-rads 5 refers to breast  lesions that are highly suspicious of malignancy requiring appropriate  action to be taken. Bi-rads5 lesions have the characteristics of breast cancer and have a 95% chance of being malignant. I am SO sorry that your friend has received this news.

    I've had my head in the computer nonstop. I am supporting her the best I can. Chocolate, phonecalls, and just listening. It's such a blow to get this type of news.

    As you can imagine...

    Things are moving quickly for her. Lots of appointments, a biopsy scheduled, etc.
