breast cancer Newbie
Hi-I'm a newbie recently dx with DCIS high grade ER - And PR -. I am overwhelmed with info from RO. Wondering if anyone heard of tamoxifin being given as preventative use for possible other cancers that may come about down the road. Is it worth all the side effects?

Wondering how you're doingNewToCancer9 said:Hi people, allow me to
Hi people, allow me to introduce myself, Im NewToCancer9, diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in April, began chemotherapy in May. Im so new to this, Im hardly ever sick. Cancer is my only major illness I've ever had, Im usually not ill, healthy and this cancer in my breast has me trippin'!!!! I only had 1 chemo treatment, lost all of my hair already (is this normal???), I lost 12 lbs already, and became ill with a sore throat, my white cell count was ZERO so they cancelled the next chemo for today (I was supposed to have had it on the 27th of May). So, I get my 2nd chemo treatment today, at 12pm. I hope my cell count is up to par, I had 5 Neupogen shots (1 shot a day for 5 days), Im still on antibiotics for my sore throat, which is much better now, and Im scared, basically. I had an MRI last week and they saw a "suspicious" area of concern on my MRI, so I have to have a biopsy Tuesday. Im hoping like HELL it aint anotha cancer area .... I'm hoping I get thru this ordeal successfully with no spreading of cancer cells, no recurrences and that MY HAIR GROWS BACK ASAP and that its still strong thick and curly as it was before chemo took it all away .... p.s., I am 53 yrs old.
I am hoping I can use this forum for support, to learn and share, make new friends, as well as give support, while I go thru this journey.
CancerCare.Org referred me here ..... (pls pardon any typos)
I see your post was in June of 2016. I was also diagnosed with Triple Negative back in September. I am 2 weeks post-chemo, and have my double mastectomy scheduled for next week. I'm so nervous about recurrence -anywhere! I'm wondering how things have been going since you went through your journey?

Abbreviations
Thanks for making this list. I am a newbie here and knowing these is quite helpful! I was diagnosed with BC, (TN) last year. Had lumpectomy, chemo, RADS, and PT. Now I am NED but dealing with hair loss and neuropathy. Feeling very lucky! Hope I used all those abbreviations correctly!

Looking for someone to tell me I'm not crazy.
Hello, I just joined this today but I am looking for some emotional support. I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in November 2018, had a port put in 2 weeks later and started chemo December 6,2019. Had my lumpectomy in April 2019 they also removed 2 lymph nodes just in case . Did 3 straight weeks of radiation in July and went in for a mammogram in October 2020 was told everything looks great. I still suffer pain in my right side, lots of numbness and tingling in my arm, hand and fingers pain in my right upper shoulder to this day. I actually joined here today because I am struggling keeping jobs. I am having a harder time catching on to new job duties and get so enraged with myself that I just quit the job. I can't stay focused. I NEVER had this issue before I got cancer I was alert, very detailed and picked up things at jobs quickly. I would also like to add that the treatment put me into full menopause and I'm only 48, was 45 at time of diagnosis. I have very fowl mood swings, hot flashes, night sweats and depression because of this. Has anyone else gone or is going through this same or similar problem? I want my quality of life back. Right now it just sucks. I have no motivation to do anything. I am currently not employed and have no insurance and am due for another mammogram very soon, I can't afford it. I am very stressed out about this ?.
Please help.

Wow thanks-- I found this very helpful! I'm also quite disconcerted that, as a newbie, I've already learned many of these and can use them accurately and self-referentially. AnnieJust wanted to thank everyone for their kindness and supportive posts at a time when I was feeling a bit low. I've gotten a grip again and not feeling so helpless as I was at the time of initially writing this message. Was almost going to delete it because I don't like signs of weakness in myself but then I thought it might help someone else so I left it there...

Hi,
Is there an abbreviation for having the chemo before the surgery? Neo-adjunctive, I think my doctor called it? Anyway, not a word that rolls off my tongue, so I wondered if there was an acronym for it?

Thanks for all the above, am Adelaide from Kenya. Cancer stage 3c . I've undergone 6 chemotherapy sessions and 10 radiotherapy sessions. Am starting hormonal therapy in the next 1 week. The abbreviations are many but with time, i will be OK
I dont mind any one knowing my identity. I almost lost my life last year when i was diagnosed. later my doc told me to talk it out with everyone no matter what they think or say. That's how i overcame my fears, stigma, depression and built my confidence.
