Bad things are happening
Papa will go to the hospital today. Since contrast ahent on Friday his digestion is not working. CT did only show bigger liver metastases. He can not eat, so parenteral nutrition. Since Sunday he is in pain, cannot eat which is usually his highlight.
I am mad at the doctor. We mentioned it on Tuesday but she did not examine him. Today she said during this whole talk, it seemed not important to the other topics discussed.
I hope anyone had the same pain and can tell me in wasnt something bad.

You have to flush the
You have to flush the contrast out immediately. They always tell me drink water, water water for 24hrs to prevent it from damaging my kidneys and other organs. But I immediately go for high dose IVC right after a scan.

Papa does drink water. Drinking was not really a problem ever. But yeah it started with contrast. It got worse and worse and eaiting is a problem then. I have the feeling he lost so much weight these last days. Really hard week right now.
But I hope it is the contrast. CT did check out other things

Ileus
My dad has an ileus. So the small intestine is blocked and causing the symptoms. He will have a surgery today. Its high risk due to his condition with the cancer, chemo, and he couldnt eat so much. With the Avastin, I worry that the wound wont heal. The cancer is progressing and he cant do chemo for a while.
Please pray for him. Surgery starts at 9pm here in German time and I am afraid I will loose my dad this night.

i developed one immediately following my last resection due to pressure on the intestines. It took a couple of weeks but it did resolve without surgery. I guess that train has already left the station. I hope things go well for him.

Surgery is over
Surgery is over. But the ileus was caused by a new met that was not there on Fridays CT. The last 6 days it grew big enough to obstruct the small intestine. We are devastated and at the end. We have Lonsurf left, Papa will get psychological help tomorrow. The cancer atm is several steps ahead than the doctors. Our GP will prescribe me and mom some meds to sleep.
I think it was my last birthday with him. I dont know if we have another Christmas but I think he will be in heaven when I graduate. Not ready to loose him. He worked so hard to put me through med school and he wont see it.

but you never really know. I've read stories where a parent has held on just long enough for that graduation, wedding, grandchild. It happens, and it could happen for your dad and for you. Hold on to that hope, even with the knowledge that you have.
Take it one day at a time, and let the future take care of itself.
If he is no longer here when you graduate, his spirit will surround you, and you will feel it.

Oh no
Im so sorry for this turn of events. Its not fair. I hope he is able to get some sort of relief soon. Do they have any plans now?
You and your dad have sounded so lovely and just thinking of him working hard to put you through med school sounds like the sweetest thing. Surely, regardless of his physical status, he will be with you with all of the great work you will do. Nothing more lovely than that.

So some things need to be discussed
In the last 48 h a lot was happening. Our GP prescribed me and my mom a z drug cause we were not able to sleep.
So after the surgery the doctor called and told us there were several mets in the peritoneum. Basically only bad news.
We told Papa. He asked the on duty doctor who read the surgical report: they took biopsies. Due to Papas history everythibg that looked suspicious was being sampled. Papa has a small scar and feels good. He has color and even though he is still not allowed to eat he is in a good spirit.
Ofc the CT could still show something suspicious but our GP will ask. For now a lot on Thursday might have been different.monday evening in Germany we will know more. Until the the GP did further reading and asked the hospital for an update. I thought the surgeon might exaggerated but I checked how it looks with CT and it is difficult to distinguish.
But for sure we will know on Monday evening. I will post ofc.
Our GP said something really important: I am not my dads doctor, it is not my task to save him. Because of that I did not read the recent doctors letter. We will get a 2nd opinion for sure. I did research peritoneal metastases today but that will be it.
I will also take a break from here. I will update what happens but I need some distance. I am thankful for all your prayers and best wishes!
Keep fighting, my dad has this spirit still!
Take care,
Silvia

News
The last few days, Papa got better everyday after the surgery. He is feeling really good. On Wednesday, he will leave the hospital.
Unfortunately, the biopsies they took were positive. There are mets in the GI tract, maybe caused the ileus. I am scared that my dad wont see me graduate.
Still, he wants to fight. The moment I get the hospital report, I will scan it and send it to university clinical centers. We have been at a certified colon cancer center but now we have to get the big guns out. Our neighbor was treated there with testicular cancer in liver, lungs, and brain, they helped him (he responded well to chemo), so I hope they will give us something.
Take care,
Silvia
