Travel Insurance Denied
Although I love traveling with Overseas Adventure Travel, they use a company called Tripmate.com for travel insurance. Tripmate is a truly evil company, I purchased their cancel for any reason trip insurance via the Overseas Adventure Travel website. Then when I was diagnosed with throat cancer a month after purchasing the trip and insurance and contacted OAT and Tripmate to cancel the trip and request the refund.
I underwent 7 weeks of Erbitux Chemo and Proton Radiation therapy and the trip would have been right in the middle of this. Obviously it would have been impossible and life threatening for me to have gone on the trip. After over 5 months of stalling Tripmate denied my claim due to "Unable to document a sickness that commenced while your cancellation penalty waiver was in effect". It appears this fraudulent company does not consider cancer to be a sickness. Do not ever under any circumstance give this company a penny, you will have to chase them for weeks/months and then they will find any loophole not to pay out. I'm very disappointed that a class company such as OAT would point their customers towards this company via the OAT website. I'm currently out over $8,500.00 - despicable.
Now the good news is I'm almost 10 weeks post rads/chemo, taste is mostly back but it's still difficult to eat solid food. I'm down 30lbs and not a lot of energy but overall doing well, I've been back twice and my Oncologist has said everything looks good!!! PET/CT scheduled in July.

Travel Insurance
Did you try asking OAT about this?? Tripmate might be willing to take a second look if worried about further referals. I believe all states have an Insurance Commission that licenses all companies selling in their state. In my state, the insurance company must respond to all inquiries from the commission. Couple of sources that might be able to help you...

Hi Crystal,
Yes I contacted OAT and they attempted to conference call Tripmate, Tripmate refused to come on the conference call due to; "My refund request had been denied". I really thought OAT could put additional pressure on Tripmate, but Tripmate doesn't care about customer service and only how much they can cheat and steal from anyone attempting to get a refund.

Terrible Treatment
There is always the lawsuit to be filed. But I'm sure you've already thought of that and it may not be worth it. Things like this get my blood boiling and if it was me and I had the strength left over from the treatments I'd sue. To me it's a sure winner but then this is only my 2¢.
Sorry to hear of your troubles.
