Icing, I think it helped.

Hi all,

I started chemo again yesterday.  Cycle 4 yesterday, with a break in between for radiation therepy. For those who don't know, I am undergoing "sandwich therapy" for Grade 1, Stage 3B Endometrioid carcinoma. This regimen consists of 3 cycles of chemo, followed by 25 sessions of EBRT (external radiation) and 3 sessions of Brachytherapy (internal radiation) followed by 3 more cycles of chemo. I hadn't come across this board until fairly recently and had never seen anything about icing to help prevent peripheral neuropathy until I found you guys.

I followed the suggestions from the kind women on this board and I am hoping that I will have less neuropathy issues this time around. I didn't feel any tingling like I did with my first few cycles of chemo. The sensitivity on the fingers of my right hand feels the same today as it did before the treatment. No problems with burning with my feet yet either. The discomfort from having my feet so cold was not as bad as I had feared, certainly not painful.

I know that I'm not out of the woods just yet in regards to the foot pain, but am hoping it will be OK. It was certainly worth the effort to less the possible neuropathy from doing nothing. Sure am glad I found this board. You ladies are the best! Thanks for the advice on where to find the necessary supplies. :-)

    OMGoodness!

And you're welcome! We're glad you found us, too! I'm so glad it helped! So glad you were able to receive the supplies on time! Yay! You're right, it's definitely worth a try. I think it's a good sign that even during the infusion you felt a difference.

Sad, at the time, but in retrospect kind of funny....The first day I met my chemo nurse I was saying things like this..."I don't want any of this to be a part of my life!" and "I don't want to make some big production out of this! I want to come here and get my infusion and go home!" and..."I don't want to be dragging a bunch of junk in here making a big deal of it!"

And from the first infusoon??? My husband went up with me dragging my big ice chest with 60 lbs of dry ice and 6 cold caps for my hair! And I was dragging the little dolly with my small ice chest and 2 big totes full of my stuff! Blanket, heating pad, music player & CD's, etc.!!

So much for my denial and pronouncements!!

    Keep us posted, Rita!

I sure wish I had known about

I sure wish I had known about icing before I had my chemo. The neuropathy in my feet and two of my fingers could have been prevented or at least, less painful. I'm a pretty low-key person but I would have hauled all that stuff into the chemo room too if it would have prevented or reduced the neuropathy.

    Good luck!!!

    Love,

    Eldri

    update

So good news...no burning foot pain this time around after my chemo infusion a week ago! Yay for icing! I'm bringing my cooler of ice and my gel mittens and booties to the next two infusions. Sure was worth the minor hassle, that's for sure.
