This time with a mass in my left lung.  Doctors have confirmed it as Renal Cell Carcinoma which suggests it is residue from the first bout from 2013.

Mass is in a difficult to access location.  Radiation will commence tomorrow.

I used to live in the Chicago area.  We now reside in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania.  So far, we are very happy with the quality of health care.

The plan is an initial attack of 20 radiation sessions, reassess and make whatever adjustments felt necessary.

Sorry to hear about this, Izzy. But thankfully you've caught it and know what you're up against - you beat it once, you'll do it again.

    We're with you!

    DARN!

All it took was one errant cell to get loose.  Who knows when it broke away or what made it multiply to become visible on a test.  But that's the nature of the beast.

Good luck and all best wishes on the new journey.  Take care and keep us posted.

    Sorry to hear. Question?

I'm surprised by the number of radiation sessions you are scheduled for. What type of radiation are they planning to do? I've heard SBRT is usually 3-5 sessions. I've never heard of standard radition treatment for RCC tumors.

Mine also recurred with a lung mass but on the upper right side. Biopsy results haven't arrived yet.

    Wishing you the best,

    Todd

I'm going to have to ask

I'm going to have to ask about what type of radiation.  The sessions are short.  About 10 minutes each.  I will ask today.

    IMRT

Does IMRT tell you anything?  These terms are all new to me.  This is my first bout with radiation.

    thinking of you

I will be thinking of you izzy and hope that your treatment is a breeze.  I was wondering, like Todd, why so many days.  It's great that you are able to have the radiation treatments.  Best wishes Izzy.

I don't know much about it either. I think that's more conventional radiation. For some reason I thought this kind of radiation is not done on RCC but I may not know what I'm talking about! I never went to medical school.

Hope it controls it for you.

    Best wishes,

    Todd
