Spindle Cell Neoplasm?
The preliminary biopsy results of the core biopsy done last week popped up on my portal as "Spindle cell neoplasm" and that it was being sent to a dermopathologist for a consult and results would be updated. I'm guessing I'll hear from doctor in the coming days.
Everything I read is just confusing because it doesn't seem to be a head and neck thing but it was taken from a growth/ lymph node on my neck. it does seem to relate to bone and For 2 years I've had severe tmj where I couldn't open my mouth and the MRI showed cystic changed to the consular head. Maybe that's involved in this. Then in February Zi started with a sore throat that never went away, irritation when I breathe (base of throat), lost 20 lbs in 2 months, night sweats, low fevers, and then a growth appearing in my neck that grew rapidly over 12 weeks to encompass around my ear and deform my lobe. i feel just awful. Covid delayed any help and I found out I have a paralyzed Vocal cord and small thyroid nodule.
Tonight I feel awful... I hurt all over and my throat is worst than ever. I thought the biopsy would be more specific but instead it's created more confusion for me. Ive lost confidence with the healthcare available and am worried I am not gonna be diagnosed correctly.

Not Sure at This Point
I found info on it but a lot of it I don't understand and cannot make a decent conclusion as to what it means. I will post a couple of things for now. Hopefully, you will get an explanation from your docs very soon. Please don't get down right now and do the best you can and take any pain meds you can and ask your docs for something stronger, for now, to try and get on the phone tomorrow and push for answers and let them know how bad you are feeling-Take Care-God Bless-Russ
The name 'spindle cell' refers to the shape of the cell on cytology and histology. Spindle cell tumors can be benign (suffix -oma) or malignant (suffix -sarcoma), and will arise from these different cell lines.
Spindle cells are specialized cells that are longer than they are wide. They are found both in normal, healthy tissue and in tumors. The most common type of normal spindle cell is called a fibroblast. Fibroblasts are support cells that are found in a type of connective tissue called the stroma.

Thank you. The doctor called weeks later to let me know it's Cellular Fibrous Hystiocytoma. According to the biopsy report they considered Fibrohystiosarcoma Proturbans but because it was small and not deep ruled it out. The doctor only labeled the specimen as my name and that it was in saline. They didn't know the location, that there is ALOT left of it, and that he couldn't go deeper because of facial nerves. So I question the accuracy of the biopsy results when they didnt have all the info. It has overtaken my ear which is now numb and purple with my lobe puffy and shooting pains down my jawline. So I am guessing it's within the nerves. I go back in a couple weeks finally. I also had another specialist biopsy my Thyroid which was unsuccessful. He did say the thyroid nodule was to the back of the right thyroid and near the vocal nerve. it was a month til I heard back that it was a failed biopsy attempt and I had to go have the Radiologist redo it. They did last week and it was a PA at first but the radiologist had to help him find it. It's to the back, solid and isoechoic he said blending in and calcified. The PA Rad did the procedure and according to the Portal it was unsuccessful and only blood cells obtained. I have significantly more bruising this time and the pain from the procedure seems to have increased the pain all along my jaw and the tumor ny my ear. I get ear pain when I drink oddly. So I am no closer to answer and approaching being sick with the sore throat and breathing irritation 11 mo. I've been eating high calorie and maintaining my weight (had lost 30# ; 20 lb in 6 wk.). Soctors are so microspecialized that none will look at the bigger picture which isn't actually that big because my problems all are within my right side between the TMJ joint, ear/neck tumor, and right thyroid. I am at a loss of what to do. 11 mo, 7 ENT's, a Oncologiat who said it wasn't her specialty and never followed through with her referrals or anything, and my general doctor who is telemed only for a year in March. I am completely exhausted and tired of feeling so awful, stuck at home because I have had sepsis twice and dont want to risk Covid. My husband works from home and doesn't seem to understand my not feeling well. My kids are schooling from home and quite resentful at this point- mad that I expect them to be doing schoolwork during school hours and mow haven't spoken to me in three days. They are on games and facetime with their friends every waking moment and when they are around me it's to laugh at my nervousness of Covid (with my history and current health issues). So it's all very isolating at the moment. I don't see any end in site with finding answer or Covid. at this rate it will take three years for me to get a vaccine. I registered my 70 year old stepfather and could only get him in close to May two hours from his home.
