New Year's Resolution Suggestion - Update Your Profile

cmb Member Posts: 1,001 Member

As mentioned by No Time for Cancer and Forherself recently, it's very helpful when a member includes some information about her diagnosis and treatment in her profile. Sometimes others forget that information when responding to a post, which may make our suggestions or experience less useful than intended.

So please consider updating your profile. Often your initial posts on this site will provide a lot of background detail you can reuse for the profile. To save you retyping this information, you can find your old posts by using CSN's "My Posts" function to look at those messages and copy the text to create the profile. See the FAQ at the top of the topic list for help in using "My Posts" under the section "Searching Your Own Past Posts."

And if you're a long-time member, also consider taking a look at your existing profile to see if you need to update it to reflect your current circumstances.

    Adding/Editing Profile Information

Note: I've copied this information from CSN's Help function so that the instructions are available as part of this topic. If you already have a member profile, but haven't entered any information about your diagnosis or treatment yet, select the "Click here to create or update your member "About Me" page" next to the "Welcome, (username)" near the top of the page. Next, click on the edit tab and then the About Me link. Then follow the instructions starting with Step 3 below.

My CSN Space and About Me

You must register on CSN to access this feature. Your CSN Space has your About Me page where you can tell your story and upload a picture of yourself or other image. It also includes your personal Expressions Gallery and Resource Library contributions and your blog.

To create your ‘About Me' page:

      1. Log on to your CSN account at csn.cancer.org with your username and password; you will be taken directly to your personal "CSN Home."
      2. Click on “create” under ‘My CSN Account' if you are creating your About Me page for the first time. Next, click on the edit tab and then the About Me link.
      3. Select any fields that apply to you in the first box.
      4. You can answer the questions that are on the page or write your own questions that you'd like to answer. The questions you create should be relevant to your survivorship or caregiving experiences.
      5. It's a good idea to copy and paste your answers into a Word document as a back-up while creating your About Me page. It's best not to type your answers into a Word document first because when you try to copy and paste them into the text boxes on CSN, they may not format correctly.
      6. When finished, scroll down and click on the ‘Submit’ button at the bottom of the page.
      7. You will have the option to upload an image from your computer by clicking on the ‘Picture’ link under the ‘edit’ tab. Click on the ‘Browse’ button in the ‘Picture’ box. Locate the image you want on your computer and click "Open." (Note: The file must be in either JPG or GIF format and the maximum size is 3000 KB.
      8. To submit your image, click on the ‘Submit’ button under the ‘Picture’ box.

To edit your About Me page:

        • Log on to your CSN account at csn.cancer.org using your username and password; you will be directed to your personal CSN Home.
        • From your CSN Home page, click on ‘edit’ under ‘My CSN Account.’
        • Select the About Me link under the edit tab.
        • Make your desired changes.
        • Scroll down and click on the ‘Submit’ button at the bottom of the page.
        • Your About Me page can be changed as often as you wish.

To view your About Me page:

        • Log on to your CSN account at csn.cancer.org using your username and password; you will be directed to your personal CSN Home page
        • Click on "view" under My CSN account.

If you have questions about your CSN Space, please send them to the CSN community manager via the "Contact CSN" link at the top of this page.

I use the "blog" feature to keep a running account of how things are going. It's another alternative to keeping track of what's going on.

        Love,

        Blog function

For those who prefer using the blog function as Eldri does, click on her profile. You'll see that she refers members to her blog on her profile page. That's very helpful. Otherwise, people like me who don't tend to use the blog function might not think to look there.

But the method you choose to document your journey is less important than the information you share with others. Do whatever works for you.
