Scan Results not posted yet

My scan results are not on the portal yet. Rather than be reasonable and think, they have been so packed lately, it makes sense that they are behind in reading scans, I can't stop worrying that it is something so bad that my oncologist is making sure they don't put it up before he meets with me. Why are scan results always so terrifying even when you are confident the results will be okay?

    Because we are all human!

And we know how our entire lives seem to hang in the balance at scan time. My last scan was last month, and the contrast dye really made me feel horrible--I don't know if its becasue I recieved an extra dose because the cheap IV catheter came apart and sprayed the first dose all over me and they gave me more or if my body has just had enough. I have decided just to do bloodwork next time, tired of the drugs and exposure to radiation. I pray your results show nothing new and nothing grew Abita!!

    Benadryl

Taking two benadryl before the scan with contrast dye has really helped me with the side effects.

Based on my pt. portal,  I

Based on my pt. portal,  I wouldn't make a determination of the results good/bad just because they haven't been posted.  My tumor marker test's were posted before I received my CRC diagnosis and they were crazy high.  I had a CT scan a week ago and it haven't posted. It's my 1st CT after 4 chemo. treatments. I emailed my Dr. today and asked if I could see the actual CT at my appt. tom. and he said "no problem, clearly the initial response is great" which I am thrilled.  Praying your results are good too!

Hey SandiaBuddy, have you ever seen any literature on Benadryl and cancer--any pros or cons ? I ask because I usually take a Tylenop PM for sleep. Thx!!

    Benadryl

I have been off the research treadmill lately, but I do not recall any relationship between benadryl and cancer--it did have a link to dementia though, if I recall correctly.  Melatonin might be a better sleep inducer, since it is supposed to reduce cancer risk (and coronavirus as well. . .).

    Posted one minute after

Posted one minute after midnight. two remain unchanged, 2 slightly increased. In the past, he has always brushed off when they are minimally increased. I woder when all these minimal increases are enough to start to be concerned. But nothing new, so for now, I am going to take this as live to breathe another day while I wait for my cure to be discovered!

    Thanks for all the support!

Wait, that is so weird. The prior sizes are wrong. And one is way off.

It was 1.4 x 1.3 cm on the

It was 1.4 x 1.3 cm on the last scan. This report has it as 3 x 1.6 cm on the last scan and 3.3 x 1.6 cm now. So either this one more than doubled in size while the other 3 remained the same or increased by a tiny amount, OR, the radiologist messed up. Or maybe this radiologist includes the inflammation part with the size. In the past they have specifically pointed out that there is increased impaction around this one.

    YES!!

Slight increase depending on size, differences and the rest can be within margin of error.  Then they often go back and remeasure old scans.  So an increase may not be as big when remeasuring.

I think you probably have seen me mention studies where radiologists given 50 scans and come up with different readings, including when looking at a duplicate of the same scan.  So try not to worry too much.  Go with breathe and wait for cure.

    Radiologists do mess up

I have had more than one incident with radiology misreading scans. I always get the CD of the scan, and I found peace of mind by going to a lung surgeon that specialises in cancer, He sits down and we look at the scans together and he shows me the nodules and their status. There is sometimes a very slight size discrepancy that he attributes to where the CT scan "slice" hit, the width of the slice, whether or not you inhaled and if you were slightly off balance lying on the stretcher. This last time they had actually given me the wrong CD, as soon as he looked at it he said, thats not you ! and raised holy heck with the Radiology dept. The previous radiologist read the prior scan completely different as well--I would get the CD 's of all your scans and try and find someone you trust to read them and show them to you on the screen--it made me feel confident that the nodules were staying dormant for the time being.

Happy to hear you got those results

Even if they did mention some slight increases, knowing is definitely better than sitting around waiting and worrying.

Ask your Onc, next time, just what determinds a 'slight' increase to a major increase and when he/she would start to worry. That might at least eliviate some of your concerns.

Enjoy your Christmas or winter season depending on your belief.  Just enjoy life, every season.

AH, the waiting and stress is over once more!  Yes, breathe!!!

If its correct then still good report of only .3 increase, right?

Are you going to have them reevaluate it?

no, because I get a scan

no, because I get a scan every 8 weeks. He seemed happy enough when telling me all good and stable. Thanks
