Miralgia Parasthesia after surgery

in Uterine/Endometrial Cancer #1

Wondering if anyone has experienced this problem after surgery and how long it took to resolve. This is numbness at the surface of the outer quad muscle extending from the hip to the knee. My surgeon seemed to expect they had traumatized the left femoral subcutaneous nerve because they checked for the numbness on initial rounds in the hospital.

    It happened to me

    No one had warned me.  The top of my left thigh was affected. I don't remember how long it lasted but it did completely resolve.

    Numbness

    After my recent major surgery in April of 2018, my whole left hip area was numb to the touch.   It felt like the sensation you get after you get novacaine for tooth repair and hte novacaine is wearing off.   I had it for almost an entire year and a half.   At first it was on both sides.  The right side resolved.  The left side definitely took longer.  Sometimes I still get it.

    My one doctor in 2010 after another major surgery indicated to me that further surgeries from that point on could potentially cause scar tissue, etc. to rest on a nerve.  He had indicated also that the risk of future surgery could cause limpness in my left leg due to the nerves being so close.

    I have had about 9 abdominal surgeries (3 were C-Section births) so my insides are pretty scarred up.

    Yes, I’ve had that!

    My numbness is exactly the same in both legs, at the upper inner thigh. My surgeon also referred to some other nerve, but studying the anatomy myself I think it was from minor injury to the obturator nerve which travels to the exact spots of my numbness. Those nerves are also located right in the middle of where he removed lymph nodes. It's never been a problem, and just kind of feels funny...like Kaleena says about the novocaine, and it's been 2 1/2 months post-surgery and is less now. 
    I'm no doctor.... but I think the fact that it's numbnes, rather than pain, indicates it will resolve. I've known people with nerve damage from surgeries and have suffered terrible pain. And these were more significant & longer lasting problems.

    Oh, Kaleena, you have persevered through so many surgeries and treatments, it's just amazing that you continue to do as well as you do. So glad that you continue to share your experiences with others on this board.

    Thank you!  I like seeing all the help you give too!  I try to get on more often but I usually can't.  We got out of work early today because of snow!

    Thanks for responses!

    I'm a notoriously sporadic poster--thanks for your responses. The numbness hasn't subsided and it's mostly annoying so I figure time will heal it. It does seem to cause some pain at the top of my knee so we'll see where that goes.
