Rang the Bell
Hi everyone! I haven't visited for a long time but wanted to let everyone know that I rang the bell after 12 years fighting Stage 4 colon cancer. No more scans or doctors visits. I am done! As the Greatful Dead put it "what a long strange trip its been." One positive is that i have been living super healthy to prevent recurrence. I plan to continue with this lifestyle to keep in good health. I wish everone on this Board the best.

12 years! WOW! so happy for you! What an inspriation!
I selfishly have to ask, what treatment finally got you to the bell?
My inital treatment was the standard Folfox + Avastan. I did 10 rounds of it and the tumor in my liver and lymph node diappeared. I then did everything I could to keep the cancer from coming back.
1. Followed a Mediterranian style diet. Low sugar, low processed grains, no red meat, lots of fruit and vegetables.
2. Exercised about 2 hrs a day. Walking, running, weight lifting and yoga.
3. Took alot of supplements. Fish oil, multi-vitamin, vit. D3, resviratrol. berberine, tumeric. magnesium, and a baby asprin.
4. Avoided stress
5. Followed a every other day 24 hr fast. Plus once a year did a 5-7 day fast.
That is what I did and will continue to do.

No surgery!?! I have been certain that despite my being unable to get surgery for my recurrence, that my tumors will eventually go away from my targeted drug, and I will be "cured". So THANK YOU! for giving me hope that yes, it is possible to do well even if suregery isn't an option! I am already vegan. I need to get cardio going. I do take D3 on the 2nd week of my cycle.
Thank you for the hope!

I did have surgery at the beginning. The tumor in my colon perforated the colon causing extreme pain. That was how I found out I had cancer. The surgeon cut out the tumor and I had to wear a bag for 6 mos. before they sewed me back together. Wearing that bag was probably what I hated most about the whole ordeal. Good luck on your treatment!

But the liver tumor and lymph node hot spot were taken care of via chemo alone, so that still gives me hope.

Congrats on reaching the end
Congrats on reaching the end of special treatment/watching, Randy, it's a great place to be. It's nice to hear a successful Folfox/Avastin treatment, my path had me get the stuff out of my liver twice, after the chemotherapy didn't get to it. You have a lot to celebrate, thanks for sharing it here...................................................Dave

Love hearing this!
Congratulations on being cured , I think I can say that!! I am a firm believer that diet, lifestyle, exercise and mindfulness all play a huge part in cancer survival. I am going to adopt your fasting habits, I have done the 16/8 sporadically and felt great doing so. I wish the Cancer medical community believed more about the metabolic aspect of the disease.

I just finished my annual extended fast. This was my fourth extended fast. I always do it a week before Thanksgiving. That way I don't feel too guilty about overindulging during the holidays. My goal was to go 7 days but I only lasted 5 days. Dr. Seigfried stated that if you do a 7 day fast once a year you will never get cancer. Anyway I'm glad its over. I nver got too hungry, but it did mess up my sleep and the last day I felt dizzy and tired. My reserch on extended fasting said that when your body is telling you stop the fast then stop it. Tomorrow I resume my every other day 24 hr fast schedule. I encourage everyone to look into fasting as a tool to fight cancer.

Great News.
It could be said that stage 4 is the new stage 2. I read some old surviivor stats from the 80's, I think, and it said stage 3 had a 10-20% chance of survival. Now it's 80 or better. The days will come when cancer is no worse than a common cold. But, it's great to hear someone who's pulled through. Congrats!
