Odd Rad Side Effect

in Head and Neck Cancer #1

Had lower dose rads in 2012.  Lucky for me my side effects have been few.  Most are the same as everyone else.

The last few months I've noticed my lips hurt if touched or opening my mouth wide.  No cold sores pop up and it doesn't hurt if left alone.  A very strange one indeed.  Didn't bother to Google it as all the answers are here on CSN.  Not sure if it's even radiation related or not but thought it was worth asking the question to the group.  Anyone ever heard of this?  

It's something easy to live with but would still love to know what's causing it.  My last resort will be to call my rad Onc and ask him.

    I had 56 Gys of the old Rads above the chin in 09 which aced my saliva glands, and I had a number of mouth and lips sores during tx, but no problems with my lips since tx. And, I can't remember hearing of anyone else who experienced lip pain/sensitivity as a longterm side-effect.

    Had anything like this happen to me and don't recall of reading of it or anything similar here on CSN. Maybe it is just a thing of it's own not related to anything with your treatment. Hope you find your answer-Take Care-God Bless-Russ

    Thanks.  I really didn't expect an answer because I've been reading this forum since 2011 and never heard of it either.  Oh well, it'll probably go away on it's own.
