in Pancreatic Cancer #1

Hi I just had my CT scan for a kidney cancer follow up. They found a 1.4 cm mass on my pancreas. Just wanting some advice on what to expect. I'm waiting for a call and consult from a gasterentolgist to schedule a biopsy. That's all I know right now. Thanks in advance.

    The biopsies and waiting can be very stressful.  If you have a positive biopsy, you will probably need scans.   Positive or negative they will probably want to remove it.   They usually perform a Whipple surgery if they are able to depending on where and how the tumor is located and attached.

    Yes the waiting is the hardest part to quote Tom Petty, right? I'm hoping and praying for a benign result. Thanks for your response and help, I appreciate it.

    Thanks for the update.  Hang in there!   Waiting can be nerve wracking.

    EUS complete

    The biopsy didn't give clear results. It is pretty small so suggested wait and watch approach. But they are sending me to a surgeon who specializes in pancreatic surgery for a second opinion. So more waiting!

    Get second opinion

    Please do that.  My husband biopsy the first time came back inconclusive.   They did another biopsy which also came back inconclusive.   It wasn't until we went to a specialist and they did the biopsy which indicated cancer.   That took almost a year.   I year without treatment for pancreatic cancer is a big deal.

    Update more waiting

    The results from the EUS biopsy were inconclusive with 3 different places looking at the results. They did another CT scan and it showed no growth since September. So we will have another CT scan in 3 months to check on it again.

    Second opinion with surgical oncologist for pancreatic disorders

    Keep on them with the inconclusive stuff.  Who is doing the EUS?  an oncologist?   If not, I would suggest getting a second opinion with a person who specializes in pancreatic disorders, specifically surgical oncologist.   We sought another doctor who got us a good biopsy.  My husband's didn't grow either.   Being its a mass, benign or not, I would suggest having it removed.  Its better to get it when you can.   

    Anyway, I am glad you are on top of it.  It must be stressful though for you.   Sending hugs!

    The surgeon I'm going to specializes in pancreatic oncology surgery. The EUS was done by a person at a gastroentological clinic. I think I need the extra time to psych myself up for the surgery. It sounds pretty intense. Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.

    Whipple

    My husband did very well after his whipple surgery.  They were able to do it robotically so it was a quicker recovery.  The surgery itself though was long due to his circumstances. 

    He recovered well enough that 6 months later we went to Italy for a trip.  My best to you on any decision you decide to make.  Also, I wish you a Happy New Year!

    Hi, I am new to this board. Hope your consult with surgeon went well. I had the Whipple 8 weeks ago today. Recovery going well. The hardest part is learning how to eat for the first several months. Too much at one meal and you are nauseous the rest of the day.

    I am still in the discovery phase and don't know a lot about the whipple surgery. Could someone enlighten me a little about it?

    Pancreatic Enzymes

    Has your onc or PCP suggested taking pancreatic enzyme capsules like Creon?  I found that by taking them with each meal or snack I was far better able to tolerate eating and it made my BMs more regular and was less smelly.
