Here we go again

Well I hate to post this, but it looks like my left kidney wants in on the action now.

Back in 2015 I had a right partial nephrectomy, remove two tumors removed from my right kidney kept most of my kidney.  Now let’s fast-forward to 2018, a 5mm spot was found on my left kidney. In 2019 it had grown to 8mm.  Now in 2020 it had grown to 2.3cm!  Ouch, not what I was expecting.  My doctor thinks there is some fluid in there that could make the lesion look larger than it’s actual solid component.  He gave me the option to do an MRI in 3 months or take it out now.  I opted for plan B, take it out now.  On August 7th I am going in for a left partial nephrectomy.

Has anyone had an experience with two partial nephrectomies? I mean do they consider this a reoccurrence or just sh#t happens?  I ask this because my urologist said this doesn’t look like Chromophobe, my first two tumors were chromophobe.  Has anyone had two different subtypes?

Everything else looks good,  I’ve been taking care of myself, eating right, exercising 6 days a week.

I hope everyone is doing well.

    Hi medic

I've not had similar experience but wanted to wish you well next week. Scary confusing stuff - but in the meantime it looks like you are doing all the right things to be in good shape going in. Keep it up; keep us posted please. Take care -

    Yes to recurrences

Since they can't, at this time, ever say you are cured of kidney cancer; when that sucker returns after the first time, it's a recurence.  Mine had already metastasized to a set of nodes and the liver, so the surgeons statement in 2006, "I think we got it all,"  was just another way of saying we looked, we pawed thru your guts, we biopsied a few wedges of what was left of your liver and didn't see any thing else out of the ordinary.  Buuuut, that doesn't mean it had not already mets to two other nodes, each found a year apart in 2007 and 2008 when comparing CT scans.

They were both removed during open surgeries and I have been NED since that time for kidney cancer.  Now, they have found enlarged thyroid, stomach and colon polyps and other fun things that needed to be removed, looked at or left alone.

With the kidney cancer survivors I've been acquained with, I know one guy who has had both partials, several with recurrences, and one or two with different sub-types.  We are in a relativly small community, with a fairly large number of retirees and former military.

Get that surgery finished and get on with the rest of life.  Good Luck and Hugs.

    no advice, medic, but-

But plenty of sympathy. Sucks that you have to go through this again, but at least you've been through it before and know you'll get through it.

Sending you thoughts for quick healing. You've got this!

    Hello,

    Hello,

very sad that you have to go through it again. At the same time, it is not proven that this is recurence yet. Maybe it is not cancer at all. Maybe it is another form of kidney cancer, meaning that the old one didn't metastasize, so you won't have to worry for more mets in the future. It is very small anyways and you are acting promptly!

    Good luck with your surgery!

    My turn...

Medic, I don't know if I've ever thanked you for being one (of the many) to come to my rescue four years ago when I was diagnosed.  Your knowledge, willingness to answer questions and support was what I needed.  Although I don't have any experience with a reoccurrence, I know you are being cared for by some of the best doctors in the world.  Their work with RCC has to be near the top, which should give you a lot of confidence and comfort.

I want you to know I'll be thinking about you and sending prayers.

    Take care!

    Hoping your feeling much better!

I've been thinking about you and hoping you're feeling better from surgery.

You were one of the first people I talked with when I was diagnosed  and still

Have the you tube link you advised me to check out.
