Restarting chemo

in Colorectal Cancer #1

Restarting chemo on February 12th. 5fu, avastian,and this time they will add irinotecan. 3 months than we will go for liver resection again. Trying to work on some problem lesions. Getting c.t. scan Monday morning. Blood work is very good and cea is remaining low at 2.0. May liver biopsy came back negative but the surgeon said she saw otherwise with the scope when in there. Any thoughts.

    Thank you Sandy. February 14th will be one year since my diagnosis. This journey involves everyone of your emotions. I don't intend to give up any ground.

    I am sorry to hear you are heading back into treatment.

    I hope all goes well as you journey forward. 

    I hear the Irinotecan has been called 'I run to the can', so be aware of that side effect.

    No biggie Tru

    I think for 3 months this time and then probably a much more invasive liver surgery. Maybe the constipation from the 5fu will cancel out the runs from the irinotcan and everything will be normal. Anyway the last time all went well so I'm not worried. Moving forward. Getting a ct scan tomorrow to start off. Will keep you informed.

    Glad to hear that blood work is all good and wishing you the best for your scan on Monday.  Sorry to hear that you have to get treatment again.  Hope that it all goes well.

    May the biopsy trump the surgeon's look-see.   Good luck on the scan.  We can kick this can down the road until something new comes up.

    Update

    One year ago today I was told that I have a cancer in my colon. I didn't panic. I have been doing what I'm being told to do and beat this. My recent scan looked good. No reoccurring activity in the colon. All organs listed clear with no sign of pathology. Nodes are clear. Liver is unremarkable. I guess the word unremarkable is radiology talk for we don't know. Restarted the chemo, no problems there. Seeing liver surgeon again in 3 months. Blood work good, cea remains good. Still very much in this and I have no intention of losing this battle.

    This all sounds really good

    and I presume you are on mop up chemo. 

    I hope all goes well with this round and you can get on with your life, with no more Cancer to worry about.

    I Had 24 Rounds of That Cocktail

    About a year and a half before it stopped working.  Really no awful side effects.  Lost more hair.  Maybe slight indigestion on Day 1 or Day 2 with hiccups.  Maybe one bathroom run about 9 days out as it cleared my system - I would have a strange "blowback" feeling somewhere between 9-14 days for about 12 hours.  Apprently some people get that according to my oncologist.  I thought I noticed it, then paid attention.  It would be something where I would not feel great, have a bathroom run, feel overall yucky for about 8 hours - nothing horrific, just bleech.  Would sleep for a few hours, then good.  Maybe one or two anti nausea med tablet each cycle.  I did a 5 mile run/race four days after one disconnect - when I didn't feel well enough to go in the car three days prior- and did one of my fastest runs.  Go figure.  The one thing was after about 9 months or so the tired and bounce back took a bit more time - was normalish about 6 days out though tired/fatigue still lingers.  Definately improving though.
