Time
That's got to be extraordinarily challenging; I feel for you!
I had NPC, so I can't relate completely to your situation. However, I read posts on here often - and the common denominator of most survivors, is that side effects almost always get better in time.
I personally am still dealing with Neuropathy in my hands and feet, and want to get closer to normal. Please listen to your caregivers, continue working on it, try to keep your spirits up - and let time work it's magic!
Sending a prayer your way....

sorry you are going through this
I think I read on another post of yours that you had a lesion on the underside of your tongue that eventually turned into SCC. I had the same thing. I had biopsies on a lesion under my tongue for a few years then in 2017 it had turned into cancer. My SCC turned out to be very small and it was all removed during the first surgery, no lymph nodes removed. I remember it did take several weeks for the tongue to completely heal and I had to be on soft foods and also drank boost for extra calories during those weeks. I don't have any speech or eating difficulties from the surgery anymore and that all cleared up for me a few weeks after the surgery. It takes a while for the tongue to heal but if this continues for you maybe you should speak to your doctor and perhaps you could see a speech therapist to help you with this.

Tongue cancer
I have had neck and then esophogal cancer. The first was Stage Four . The second one was esopugal cancer. That also was stage 4. Chemo and radiation took care of them, but then it came back as tongue cancer. It is Stage 1. I am not sure how much of my tongue will be romoved or how disabled I will be afterwards. I'm not particualry afraid because I have been thru it twice already. I just don't know what to expect with this one. I'm having surgery because I thin that more radiaton will cook my e throat as it is mostly scar tissue at this time.

Of us, on here you have been through much. You have certainly had your share. If stage 1 they probably won't have to take much of your tongue. About 18 months ago I had a small spot on my tongue which was cancer and I just lost a small section and it did not affect anything. It takes a little time to heal and the stitches to dissolve and it didn't look very pretty for a while so if it wasn't very sore and everything seemed to be going as it should i didn't look at it much. but I think you will be OK. Take Care-God Bless

I hope all goes well for you, I started out with stage 1 area on neck, did those treatments then the next was neck dissection and now have an area on base of tongue that’s stage 4, trying Keytruda, wish there was something better than surgery all the time, hoping all goes well
