    Surgery

I had a large mass on my ovary and another one in my colon although both were colon cancer. I had exploratory Open surgery because at the time they weren’t sure what would be found. This is because the mass I had on my ovary was basically taking up the entire space so they couldn’t see what they needed to on scans etc.

Anyway the surgeon did a full radical hysterectomy along with debulking and colon resection all during same surgery.

Recovery was uneventful then I went on to have chemo.

After a year of chemo treatments I was recently declared NED and given a two month break that I  hope will continue.

If you are not comfortable with the care you have been receiving you may want to consider a second opinion at this point.

Incidentally the surgeon that did my surgery was an ob/gyn oncologist surgeon.

    Sick

Yes ,before my surgery I was really sick and had excrutiating stomach pain. The last two weeks I could barely move. I laid on my side most of the days at that point and had no clue what was to come.

It hadn’t hurt like that even a couple months earlier but yes the surgery was a huge relief!!

i haven’t had notable pain since with the exception of some stomach cramping due to diarrhea etc which I control with medical marijuana.

    Keep your head up.

Feel free to message me anytime

My appendix cancer showed as an ovarian tumor

Please confirm that you are being treated for the correct tumor types.  You may want to send your slides for review to someplace like MD Anderson or Sloan Kettering to confirm what type of cancer you have.  I've known too many women who were incorrectly diagnosed with ovarian cancer when it was appendix or colorectal in origin.

    more test

I just got a specialist in this kind of cancer . from my pelvic examine and pap which has been the most painful test so far. He now wants to do a utrasound and next a mri. so I quess he'll be sure by then. My surgery doctors wants to figure out how much more he'll need to do. He already has to do a colonopy during surgery to check my right side . They can't get their scope past the tumor in my lower colon so they have to wait until they cut it and pull it out the hole in my stomach. thank you to those that responded to my question. I am greatful.

    Tests

The MRI will give a more detailed picture of what is going on.  It's a good thing that they are doing tests, as this can give better direction in how the doctor wants to proceed.  Remember, it's never too late to get a second opinion if you aren't happy with this doctor.  I'm sorry that you are so unformfortable, but sometimes the surgery can be a blessing in disguise.  Let us know when surgery is scheduled and if you have further questions.  Make sure to write down any questions you have before you see your doctors.  You might think you will remember, but a lot of times it slips your mind.  Wishing you well.

    Correct diagnosis

This is an excellent point and very important so thank you for bringing it up.

I only received a diagnosis that it was actually colon cancer, after surgery when it was examined by pathology or whomever. (Sorry chemo brain is real)

This is also the reason that I was operated on by an ob/gyn oncologist surgeon.

I think we were all mostly surprised that mine was colon cancer and not ovarian- definitely unexpected for me.
