eating surprise
Am 24 months post neck radiation and chemo. Still no taste or saliva. A few days ago I started to eat just about anything. Am still eating good size portions 3 times a day and some snacks along the way. Able to chew and swallow. Anyone experience this unusual event? I am very happy and am hoping some taste or saliva relief is on the way rather than some of the false alarms of the past. Still have nerve damage, hearing loss and constipation.

Congrats to You
Sounds like you turned a corner and can eat now. Enjoy. I remember what a blessing it was when I could get something through the swallower again. I don't think the saliva will come back but it may but I figure now that you are eating it is only a matter of time till the taste starts returning. Again congrats and God Bless

taste
I'm 10 months out from treatment for stage 1 Tonsil / Lymph node cancer. Old staging was 4a. I had both 35 rads and 3 high dose cisplatin treatments. I was very fortunate and made it thru all the tratments in pretty good shape compared to a lot of the folks here. I did completely lose all saliva and taste functions during treatment. Losing my taste was the worst thing I had to deal with. You can relate to that I'm sure. Even though I never lost my ability to eat and swallow I just could not eat regular food because of the taste issue. I survived on Boost drinks. Currently, I would rate both my taste and saliva about the same at about 80% of my old normal. One of the things someone had told me was they got a lot of their taste back when they started to consume Lemonade. I started drinking it and low and behold the taste started coming back. Don't know if that's what helped but you may want to give it a shot. It must be very difficult to go 2 years with no taste or saliva. I don't know how you can eat all the meals you mentioned. Your one tough guy. Just so you know I'm 66 years old and was in great shape before the big C entered my life. I did have my Pet Scan 4 months after treatment and there was no signs of any cancer. Doc said it could not of been any cleaner looking. Hang in there, you are probably one of the ones that take a bit longer to get your taste and saliva back. Takie care and God bless you.
