I go down to Sloan Kettering every 6 months for my MRI and to meet with my dr.  I get the MRI done on a Tuesday, so that my dr will have results when he sees me on that Thursday.

I just got back from my Tuesday/Thursday Sloan Kettering appointments - a day late. I have no news. There was a significant foul-up, where a radiologist decided to change my doctor's order, and did a different MRI from the one I was supposed to have. Dr. Paty and his staff were furious! They managed to reschedule me for the correct MRI yesterday afternoon (hence another night in NYC.) Meanwhile, no results yet, but if you see a head rolling in the MSK corridors, kick it - it's the radiologist who decided that he knew what was better for me than my dr!

I'll let you know when I get the final read.

Alice

EDITED: We just spoke with Dr. P, as my results are finally in, and I now have a "hot" lymph node near where he did the most recent surgery. It has to come out.

He is looking into the possibility of ablation, but only if there is zero risk of any spread by the procedure. He'll be working with the top Interventional Radiologist at MSK, and if there are no negatives, then it will be an in-and-out procedure. If there is any doubt whatsoever regarding the safety of this procedure, he will go in surgically and do a clean removal. He'll let us know in a week or so (the Radiologist he wants to use is on vacation, and he can't present to Tumor Board until August 19th.)

    How frustrating!

An already anxious time, drawn out for you. I am so sorry to hear it.

And yes, heads should certainly roll.

It sounds allot like the insurance chap behind the desk telling my surgeon I should be having a resection instead of the ablation my Surgeon said I should have.  What on earth are these people thinking?

Deep calming breaths. Will you get your results tomorrow? I hope they are expiditing the order.

    They don't care

It's just because they just don't care.  If it was them going through all this crap they sure would make sure that it was done correctly because they think they know more.  It reminds me of some doctors that don't give a hoot about what type of symptoms you are complaining about.  Hope you get great results from this scan.

    Another surgery

    It is very disheartening.

I have had 11 surgeries (not all Cancer related) and my heart sinks whenever I hear those words.

And of course, who wants to hear they have a hot anything at our age, let alone a Cancer related Lymph node.

I am sorry to hear this, Abrub.

I do hope that you are a candidate for an ablation. It was one of the easiest surgeries to recover from, for me.

    I am sorry!

i hope they are able to do the procedure as minimally invasive for you as possible. I wish it had been clear but I am glad that’s the only thing they found.

    Getting jerked around, and

Getting jerked around, and then finding a new spot sucks, and I'm sorry, Alice, you deserve better treatment. I hope they can scope their way to it, rather than the regular route, or the ablation if you prefer that. Either way I know you want it out or blasted now, I always wanted it fixed fast, so my mind could be free of at least that part of it all. Hang in there......................................................Dave

    Thanks, Dave.

He can't go in laparascopically because of all of my prior surgeries and adhesions.  Hoping ablation is an option.  I'll know more in about 2 weeks.

    Sorry

I'm sorry you have to go through yet another operation to get this out, but it sounds like your doctor is on top of things and they are going to consult with others to determine the best path forward.  Ugg, surgery is never good especially when it occurs over and over and the scar tissue just keeps adding up.  I'm praying that you have the best outcome for this new development and wishing you a very speedy recovery.  Hopefully they can get you in very soon to get this taken care of.

    Hugs!  Kim
