Stivarga?

in Colorectal Cancer #1

Have you been on it? How did you do? What about the side effects?  $18,000 a month and waiting to see if the insurance approves us. Hope so, Lord only knows we can't pay for it! That's so absurd, $18,000 but in Canada it averages $6200....GRRRRRR

    I read an article that Stivagra prolongs life for an average 1.4 months. My oncologist said that he had rather negative experience with this drug: a lot of side effects and little benefits. Butt.

    Thank you for your imput. I wasn't too keeen with the manufactures data, they said 6 months....Which we know how big pharama rolls when it comes to statistics. It still hasn't been approved yet and he is calling the oncologist. I don't understand they took him off of Folfri for the Y-90 gave him a 9 month break, she said they could go back to it....why are they not doing that instead of going to a 3rd line drug already.

    Call her and ask. If folfiri

    Call her and ask. If folfiri worked for him, and he needs it, ask her. My doctor has me on irinotecan and erbutix. I won't know if it is working for another month. She should tell you why they are changing drugs.

    oh, I sent a message about stivarga after getting home and reading about it. When I went in the next appt, he had the other drug combo for me to take. I don't know if it was his plan all along, or because I questioned stivarga, but I am on this other one.

    She said he can go always go back to it but this will keep him from needing to goto the infussion center a while longer. Folfri never stopped working, it just was too harsh to be on while he was undergoing Y-90. Stupid Job, he voiced to her that it was a pain to go to the center every other week becuase of it so she came up with this option. This job has been a thorn in treatment from the getgo. He didn't want to go to another center initally becuase of it....He doesn't want to go on medical leave becase of it and he has FMLA....I get it's our only income and our only source for insurance both medical and life, but what good is it if it hinders his treatment?

    I do understand the work part

    I do understand the work part. I have to work. fortunately, my company is understanding and I can work remote when need be. But there are days I wish I could afford to take leave.

    My mom tried Stivarga and

    My mom tried Stivarga and didn't get good results on it.  We're trying Afinitor now which is actually for breast cancer but targets colon tumor markers as well.  The problem is the insurance won't cover it since it's not a FDA approved treatment for colon cancer.

    Twinzma, will it be possible for your hubby to keep his life insurance after the retirement? Does it has a provision of surrender? Can you work?
