Losartan

Now that I'm home recovering from a nephrectomy I'm sitting around watching too much TV. I'm seeing all these legal firm ads about Losartan and cancer. Googling around I'm seeing a lot more on the subject. Apparently there have been any number of "bad batches" produced. I thought we had an FDA.

My doc put me on Losartan when he told me I had chronic kidney disease.  It was supposed to protect my kidneys, not destroy them. Several urologists, nephrologists and oncologists saw my drug regimine when I was in the hospital last week. Nobody said anything about this.  Has anybody researched this?  I'm wondering if I need to get off this drug.

contaminated batch, not a complete recall-

The FDA has a list available of which Losartan batches were contaminated. As far as I know, Losartan is still being prescribed - I got a fresh resupply this month.

    Thanks. From what I've read

Thanks. From what I've read it sounds like this has happened at least a couple times.

I'll check the FDA site. Although I don't know how I'd ever find out which batches my prescriptions came from these last couple years.

    Losartan

I've been on it too and saw the same information in the news. I checked with both my cardiologist and Urologic oncologist who confirmed it was just particular batches and it has nothing to do with the medication itself.  I am still taking it daily.

    I wonder if anyone was

I wonder if anyone was actually contacted by their doctor or pharmacist re this batch of drugs, or do they just recall it from the pharmacy and not individual patients.  Just curious how that works.

My husband, who has RCC, did not take any medications, but still got cancer.  I am certain his cancer came from prolonged frequent use of Round-up.   I called the number on the TV commercials to see what they had to say in that class action lawsuit.  They had no interest in any cancers that were not lymphoma.  I certainly dont understand why they arent interested in other people with cancer.  Does anyone understand that?

    Those legal firm ads are

Those legal firm ads are mostly scams.  They file enormous class action suits but run up the legal fees to the point that the patients involved see little of it.  It all started when certain court districts started allowing these cases to be heard, and they tie up the court system terribly.  The town I grew up in is one of those districts, and nearly every building in the downtown area is a lawyer's office.  Some cases are legit, but the ones who advertise on TV are not looking out for anyone's interest but their own.

a_oaklee, I think kidney cancer is one of those that is really hard to prove any root cause, which is why those lawyers you contacted won't take it.  It would take too many experts (and fees paid to them) to attempt to find a connection.  Those are quick-buck lawyers who do not want complications that will bite into their fees.

Thanks so much Alice for your

Thanks so much Alice for your informative response.  I have read where people who work in Agriculture, Welders, Automotive industries have a higher incidence of renal cancer.  Before Roundup was in the news, I was blaming it for my husbands cancer.  He used it alot.  We no longer struggle with why this happened.  I think in the beginning, probably everyone goes through the phase of trying to figure out the cause.  That being said, I dont think the Roundup ingredients are safe.  Theres no cancer in my husbands family history.
