Hi all,

My name is Brittany. I used to be BrittanyC on this board but I long forgot my password and the email I set the account up with no longer active!

2019 makes 10 years that I lost my mother to stage 4 ovarian cancer. She was 52. I was 21 when I lost my mother. I will be 32 in May. Ever since her passing back in 12/2009, I thought about what I could do to have her memory live on. I dealt with a lot of grief but eventually channeled it into something positive - I became a Medical Assistant, with a passion in Women's Health. To be the partner that helps women and to support them in the same way my mother's healthcare team did. It has been 5 1/2 years since I have been in the healthcare field. My intention is to become an RN and to stay in Gynecology as it holds a special place in my heart.

Ovarian cancer has always been in the back of my mind. Not only did it take my mom's life, but it took my great aunt in her 40s. I have been BRCA 1 and 2 tested and came back negative. I bawled my eyes out crying when I found out, but it still lingers in the back of my head.

Last fall, under much consideration and thinking, I underwent a bilateral salpingectomy at the age of 31. More and more research is coming out that ovarian cancer may start in the tubes. The wonderful gynecologist that did the surgery did an excellent job. My husband and I are childfree, he is more concerned about my health and wants me around a long time :) I have no regrets. I just want my life, a very long one.

I have been very much aware of my body and health since my mom passed. I hope to be here a long time and to help preserve my mother's memory by caring for women.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update.

    Ah Brittany.  What a

Ah Brittany.  What a beautiful tribute to your mother - choosing to help others.  The women you will be helping are going to be very lucky to have you.  Someone who can really understand their struggles withh compassion - thank you.  Wha that would mean to women is undescribable.
