The C: Section Chronicles - Two Year Anniversary
Even though my treatment actually finished on the 21st April 2017, Today, Friday, is more relevant to me as Friday was the day I finished my 30th radiation treatment, and it began the slow process of healing.

The first few months post treatment was harrowing to say the least; coping with throat pain which made swallowing difficult, feeling miserable for most of the time, being tired and listless... the thought that 'when will this ever end', and on top of that 'am I really cured?' ever present in ones mind.

It seems like just yesterday that I struggled to accept the gastro/nasal feeding tube... And it was literally yesterday two years ago, that I was placed in hospital because I was no longer eating or drinking much. On top of that I was mistakenly overdosed on morphine... that was a trippy experience... ah the bliss then being shaken out of a deep deep peaceful sleep where there was no pain... I'm glad it is now only all a memory... unpleasant as it was, the alternative... well I'd probably be communicating this to you all by seance.

Am I out of the woods as far as cancer is concerned? I don't know... If I am then fine, if I'm not, then I'm fine with that also.. Que sara sara... what will be will be.

In the meantime I thank God for the treatment and support I was given, and for the extension of life, no matter how long it may be.

    Congratulations, Bob... and thanks for being here!  I never had a feeding tube or morphine, but I did enjoy the bliss of being pumped up full of steroids while getting chemo and feeling the bliss of no more back or knee pain.  You know, it's pretty hard to think of much that was positive about the whole experience, but enjoying a short time without pain and coming out on the other end of the misery of the aftermath still alive... and possibly/probably cured is pretty darn close!

    Congratulations Bob We went through treatment at the same time almost. I'm 2 years out on the 28th of June

    Your words mean so much. 

    I have been finished my radiation for 3 months today and still at the point where I don't think the side effects will ever end!  So it is good to hear that in time things will get better and better.  Trying not to think too far in the future but praying for the day the pain lessens.  I was told that I shouldl have radiation because there were cancer cells (displasia?) in the flesh around the tumor that was removed from my lip.  None around the one in my lymph node that I was told although they radiated the neck as well. 

     

    No one tells you all of the complications that radiation can cause, but I went for the extension of life as well and hopefully it will be a pain free one!
