I hate that cancer is stealing so much from you!

As a fellow horsewoman I truly understand your pain. But in your situation I don't think anyone could think of your horse as a "luxury". As you said, been with you 20 some years-if that doesn't qualify as family I don't know what does. Plus it is a well known fact that horses are very therapeutic in many different situations. Please rethink the GoFundMe option, at this point anything is worth a try. Thinking of you and sending nose kisses from my ponies in Heaven Orion and Isobel.

Aw, thank you! I have some

Aw, thank you! I have some horses in Heaven, too. I miss them so much. He is family. He'd come in the house if he could. I'll post some pics of him and I after my PE when I was in the ICU and he came to the hospital. I'll try to do that tomorrow but I'm a complete simpleton with technology.

    I understand the whole not

I understand the whole not wanting a GoFundMe page, but he loves you so much. And he will miss you as much as you will miss him. It breaks my heart. I feel this way about my cats so I can't help but think how it would be.

Am so very sorry. I hope you

Am so very sorry. I hope you are able to keep your baby. If you start a go fund me page Richard and I will be happy and honored to help. my name on FB is Summer Gush. It’s the summer Gush with a goddledoodle puppy as the profile pic. I understand about bills collecting to some degree. Richard has no idea bout our finances because I m the main money maker in the family and deal with all of that. about 3 months before his diagnosis we bought him his dream car. A Range Rover super Charge Sport. I’ve had to place some items such as my beloved handbags on eBay and take on some extra work as a therapist in addition to my full time job to keep us where we were before. Many weeks I work 7080 hours because I didnt want him to worry about anything financially related. This last month while living  awa from home many friends and family came together and gave us close to  10k to help with expenses. This was the first time we’ve ever been on the receiving end. It was hard to accept, but lifted so much off our shoulders. we feel so blessed to have had the help.Something that you love so much, such as your horse is helping you in this battlE.i hope there is a way we can help

even just in a small way. Much love and many prayers!

Wow, you are all making me

Wow, you are all making me crym so very blessed to have the people I have in my life even those I've never met. I'll think about this. The idea of losing him is hard to even contemplate. It would devastate both of us, I think.

    Hugs to all of you,

    Feel strongly

That you must keep your horse--sell the car but keep the "horsepower"!! I would be so happy if there was a go fund me to ensure he stays with you and I would be honored to donate. Hugs

    Awww

Awww, that picture is so darned cute.  Show it to the tax man, there is no way they will make you part with your horse.  Honestly, get some legal advice.  Do not rely only on what the tax agency tells you.  You have a right to certain essentials in life, and your horse is one of them.  There are no debtor's prisons in Canada.  Set your limits and make it work!

Have you looked into a consumer proposal at all JanJan?

It might not be a bad idea to talk to someone about that. I'm not positive about tax law in Alberta, but in Sask. they can't take your house as long as you are current on payments. With my cancer, I've had similar experience with you. Been through troubles with the tax man and bankruptcy, but my house and my car that I need to get to work were never in any danger.

If you haven't looked into doing a consumer proposal, you really should talk to someone about it soon. It could make a big difference to you financially.

I'd be very careful about who

I'd be very careful about who buys him. It's not the monthly cost, which is bad enough, it's a huge bill I owe taxation that we just founf out about. I've been trying to get them sorted out for over a year and it finally did and I owe over 8 grand. They're threatening to make us sell our house if it's not paid off.

I'm so upset I just tried to give a dog cookie to the cat. She looked at me like I was nuts.

    Hmmm

Jan, I'm truly sorry to hear about your situation. I don't know much about tax law but I wonder if you can take some exemptions or deductions. It drives me nuts that people who are dealing with cancer, especially stage IV cancer have to deal with this nonsense. You're hanging in there but not by a whole lot. Maybe if you had 3-4 homes it would be different but most of us are just trying to live out the time we have left without being in the poorhouse.
Have you explored the possibility of getting financial aid for any organization? I'm not on many cancer sites anymore. I try to keep a foot in the door in a few places. I'll ask around and see if anyone has any suggestions.

The last thing you want to do is piss off the cat! Such spiteful little creatures. I have two of them and love them

So sorry for your tax issues

Talk about adding insult to injury. Your horse is more than a luxury. Yes, it is expensive to keep him, but he is family and even more so because brings you joy when you are down. It seems like he could be considered an emotional support animal. I'm not sure what the hoops might be to get him classified as such, but it might be a way to keep him. Praying something works out for you.
