After a Mastectomy Breast Tissue Left in

in Breast Cancer #1

I'm wondering if anyone else that has had a mastectomy where they left  in Glandular tissue in the retroareolar area. I know have to have ultrasound and mammogram every year on this?? I thought I would no longer have to do this type of testing; this is why I opted to have the Left Mastectomy when I was first diagnosed. I am very concerned about this any advice will help I am scheduling to meet with a surgeon.

    Did you have a nipple saving

    Did you have a nipple saving mastectomy?  I was told there is always a small amount of breast tissue left as they can't completely take everything.  I was told no more mammograms for life, but I'm guessing MRI's or something yearly instead.

    I did have a nipple sparing

    I did have a nipple sparing but according to my mri its a the 2:00 my cancer was at the 3:00 this concerns me. I also had my Sentinal node removed because all the brest tissue was to be removed???  the tissue is in the upper outer corner?

    I have a little

    I had a both breast removed.  No reconstruction.  In the right it was 2:00.  In the left it there were tiny ones scattered 2 and 3:00.  I decided the total removal.  Ready my bio. as to why I took such a radical approach.  Scar is from the back of one armpit to the back of the other.  

    I have a little bit of breast tissue lower left  middle area.  It feels totally different from the rest.  It feels like soft breast skin.  No muscle, just skin that is never going to be as tight as the rest.   I ask why, doc said they had to use it to stretch the skin up to close.  To this day, I question that.  Too late now though.

    glad to hear it may be normal

    I am finding out how much was left in? it sound more to me like I did not have a good surgery and too much was left.  I also took a radical approach and wanted a bilateral but then opted for the left and regret the choice to this day, should have gone with my first instant. I am upset and frustrated but will keep fighting for all answers.

    be kind to yourself..

    Dont beat yourself up over your choice.  It is what you had to do at that moment.  You can go back later and talk to a specialized breast surgeon about it.
