Scan today

so yea, having the ole scanxiety! I finished treatment last December. The first scan at the end of 2018 was NED. It’s been 3 months and time for the next one and of course I can’t sleep. I wish I could turn off my brain. My sister, who I dearly love, tells me I must meditate and ”see” myself as healed. I really want to... I do But that’s so hard.

When the cancer came back, it was in my left lung. I never had symptoms. I took an aggressive approach and rather than bother with a biopsy, I had surgery and a third of my lung was removed with clear margins. Now I’m just scared. I don’t know when you ever feel confident about your health again.

I know it’s hard for family and friends to understand how it feels. Everyone has their own life to live and are busy with just living. I know the people on this board can relate and I appreciate being able to express how I feel here.

thank you all for your support.

    Scanxiety

"Scanaxiety," a term only those who have had cancer can really understand.  I keep two months of calendars on my refrigerator, and when the scan stares me in the face it truly is sobering.  It seems like a good night's sleep left me permanently after the initial diagnosis.  I do not know if that is age, the disease, or something else.  And yet, it beats the alternative.  We undertand fully the anxiety and wish you a good result (and an appropriate celebration).  Best of luck to you.

We all get it, the only

We all get it, the only effective treatment for me was not thinking about it, blocking it from my mind as much as I could. If I felt it creeping in, I'd starting singing a song in my head, or out loud. Just pick an obnoxious earworm that won't go away, like a Sousa march, AC/DC or something. I've even had "How Great Thou Art" going round and round in my head while I was doing stuff, just to crowd out anything that might sneak in. Anyway, it sounds silly, but it works for me.....................................Dave

    Bike on!

Kaz, I just read your post on Sandia's thread.  How wonderful to have goals. I see your riding with your grandchildren, and loving it.

Don't push too hard, even if it is a year out. Still early days. Go gently and build up to it.

When do you get your results?

    Tru

Its crazy. I just got off the phone with my dear cousin who was just told she has lung cancer, stage 2b. somehow I can pep-talk the heck to her but have a hard time with myself. Lol.

thanks Tru. I will report results one way or another as soon as I know.
