Could be caused by an infection. My doctor doesn’t check CEA because even with cancer, imine never got above 2.1.

hopefully this is just a fluke. Good luck

What did they say about it? My understanding is that under ten can be normal, up to 13 for smokers is normal, anything over that is concerning. But that a person can have it higher if they have inflammation. I could be wrong, though. Oh, and welcome!

You might use the search tool and look at the CEA posts.  There are countless reasons it increases.  Some bad, some not so bad.

When I see these posts about high CEA levels...

I think I'm screwed but my Doctor just doesn't want to tell me, my last CEA was 348.5! I had 2 Y90 procedures in the last 4 months so it should be going down. It took a significant jump. Neither my oncologist or the new interventional radiologist had any explanation, they just shrug their shoulders when I ask about it. They don't seem to think it's an issue. I am still standing and recovering so I don't know what to think

    Weeks

It took my CEA level ages to go down, after I had my liver surgery.  My liver surgeon told me that while the liver is healing, he would not be overly concerned with numbers.

    Hang in there, Karen.

    Thanks Trubrit

I guess I might be a bit hysterical today. Dealing with my cancer and a majorly dysfunctional family is about too much. Thank goodness I found a good counselor.

    I do appreciate it,

    Karen

Not sure exactly where it is but there is Dr. Mark Bloomston in Fort myers. He is a very good liver guy. I strongly recommend him. I think it is about 10 hours from Charleston. Let him take a look on what was done and read the scans. Butt.

My CEA was never reliable so wait until the PET scan and see what that shows.  Sounds like you are being proactive and getting the tests done that you need.  Wishing you well on the scan and wishing all goes well.  Let us know how you are doing.
