Diagnosed with stage 4 anal cancer and will be receiving Folfox for 9 sessions with the fanny pack. Has anyone else had this chemo?

Hi,
I am sorry you have received this dx, but glad you have come here for support. I'm sure as you proceed questions will come up. I hope you feel comfortable asking here as really very little is off topic and surely someone (who has been or is) in your shoes will chime in with an answer that will help.
I was initially dx 8 years ago with stage 3b anal cancer. I was given 5FU with cisplatin. Many here are treated with 5FU with mytomycin but I believe its often just a doctors choice and depends on location of treatment facility. It is my understanding that Folfox is (5 FU & Oxaliplatin) Both Cisplatin and Oxaliplatin are platinum based drugs but I have read that Oxaliplatin has less ototoxic side effects (hearing loss)...for the record, I had some very minor hearing issues during treatment but returned to normal once finished.
Hopefully someone with some experience with Folfox will be of more specific help to you.
I wish you all good things and a manageble treatment plan as you move forward. Please know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Happytobe,
You might want to check out the colorectal board. I've seen some of those members discuss folfox as that is one of the treatments they have. There doesn't see to be as many AC members compared to the colorectal group and they are more active.
I was 3b and had mets to the lung last year. Cisplatin was discussed as an option as an adjunct treatment to Cyberknife for the lung mets but I did not opt for it. I had just one small lung tumor and it was able to be treated with Cyberknife. While I have yet to find out if there is NED as this time, my consult at MD Anderson affirmed my feeling that chemo at this point would not be indicated. Have you had a 2nd opinion on the best way to treat your stage 4?

I am being treated at Florida
I am being treated at Florida Cancer Specialists in Orlando a division of Florida Hospital (now Advent Health). Went for my 2nd opinion at MD Anderson. I am getting the Folfox instead of chemo and radiation because of the metatasis to my liver and lymph nodes. I am a 60 year old woman with none of the background problems that this cancer is associated with and married for 33 years to the best man on the planet!

Welcome to this forum. I don't have any experience with Folfox, but just wanted to say hi.
