I am nervous
Hello, I am new here. I had an abdominal US 3mos ago and they accidentally found two cyst at the upper pole on my left kidney measuring 1.0x1.2x1.3cm and 1.0x1.2x1.4cm each. They are demonstrating internal echogenic septation. i had another one today and can’t stop worrying about it. The doctor doesnt seem fussed but I have anxiety. If you can tell me more about these kind of findings, I will appreciate it. Thanks

Have Faith
First off, whatever they are, they are small. They found a 3.5cm mass in my wife's kidney 6 years ago and it turned out to be malignant. They removed her entire kidney and she has been cancer free ever since.
I know this is scary....trust me. Have faith and ask questions. You are in our prayers.
Please report back further findings.

Welcome, Mary
I'm glad you reached out to us. Hopefully, we can offer you some information through our stories that will help you travel the journey you're on. I just have a question concerning the cysts that you talk about. Did the doctor mention anything about what level of Bosniak cyst? You do mention some septation, but to what level?
One last thing--try not to worry. We'll help as much as you allow us.
Blessings---Stub

I sure do offer the same
I sure do offer the same support to you in any way. What helped me a lot was reading other people's stories. Just click on the profile picture and it'll pop up. I learned so much that way and it helped me ask better questions also! Good luck.

For now they may be too small to diagnose
Mary,
Lets see what the results of today's scans are. They may follow up with a CT or more watch and wait. The good thing is that if you get bad news it is still very small and nearly 100% fully curable at this size. We were all nervous in the begining. That was me 16 plus years ago.

Hi and welcome. We all
Hi and welcome. We all understand being anxious... Especially when we don't have all the answers we want. Hopefully your scan from today will give you all the answers you need. Rest assured if they say they are only cysts....then it is quite accurate. Cysts show up completely different than tumors. I had both and also saw the images and there is a clear difference. I wish you all the best!!

Don't worry, it is way too
Don't worry, it is way too small to make you concern. It doesn't sound like it is very complex, if there is only a single hairline septation or two, the doctor might not even ask you to do a CT but just follow up with ultrasound to monitor the complexity of the cyst.

Thank you all for your kind
Thank you all for your kind words. the ultrasound yesterday says there is a 26x15x13mm septated cyst within upper pole of kidney or could be two adjacent cysts. It show no concerning feautures and further follow up would be of doubtful benefit.
what do I do now? I asked my GP that I want it continued monitoring.

The reason it is bigger isicemantoo said:See a Urologist
Mary,
26mm (2.6 cm) is larger than your first post. See a Urologist if you are not already seeing one for a second opinion. Still small in any event.

The reason it is bigger is the sonographer combined the two cyst. Thanks for the suggestion, I would push for a referral

That is good to hear
That is good to hear Maryfaith. The most important thing is "It show no concerning feautures". Some simple cyst growth to pretty large size too. A large percentage of people over 40 have kideny cysts, and they posted no harm.
It is always the concerning features that would draw doctor attention. Such as "thinken" wall and septations, solid components. I agree with your urologist that monitoring it with Ultrasound for now. If you are concerned about it, then I would do a shorter interval like 3 months, then six months. But I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Mary,
Push hard for a referral to a Uro. This is above the paygrade of a GP.

I agree with your desire to have some kind of monitoring. A "cyst" was observed on one of my kidneys in 2011. In 2015, I had blood in my urine ... long story short, it turned out to be a cystic tumor. I wish mine had been surveilled and caught sooner, although it was still early stage when finally removed. Go with your instincts!
