in Colorectal Cancer #1

They ask for a lot of stuff for a second opinion appt. Not just paperwork, I have to get a DVD of the scans and tissue samples from my surgeries. I was really hoping not to let my oncologist know, but guess not.

    No doctor should have any problem with getting a second opinion. I've always told my doctor and they have agreed very time. Don't worry. Just do what is best for you!

    Your oncologist should not take offense by you seeking another opinion and if they do then it isn't the doctor for you. Hope that you get good answers from the second opinion and a new approach that will see you into Nedsville! Prayers & Hugs!!!

    No doubt, it's a pain

    But finding the right treatment, with the right doctor, is the goal.  Took me 4 tries to get it right.  Don't give up.

    Any doctor who is offended by asking for a 2nd opinion isn't comfortable in his own judgment and doesn't want it challenged.  This is YOUR life; you hire your doctors.  Don't worry about insulting them.

    Very understandable

    I completely understand that.  I was encouraged to go for second opinions by my drs from the get-go.  Then again, I have a very rare form of colorectal cancer (appendix cancer.)  However, your doctor will understand your need to confirm that you are doing what is best for you and your treatment.  You can fax in your request/permission if you don't want to talk to anyone there.  Send the instructions of where it is to go, and signed authorization to send it.

    My husband’s oncologist

    was so happy we went to sloan and he got his surgery, she couldn’t get anyone at yale to do it. No dr should get upset, you are fighting for your life. Yes it’s a pain in the butt though to get everything they need, but without it how can they know if they can help you or not? Also, you get copies of scans and tissues samoles  sent from the hospital or place they were done  not your oncologist

    Made me smile. I know it's a typo but now I will always hear samoles instead of samples and I will smile.

    Lol!!

    thats because my daughter only talks to me  when I am trying type something or read something lol 

    of course somoles makes me think of Samoa’s which makes me want a girl scout cookie. That’s where my mind went lol

    Abita wasn't talking about the intial doctor wanting this but the second opinion doctor wanting this (I'm assuming).  I'm not sure how any patient would electively get a tissue sample on their own - that sounds IMPOSSIBLE.  A good doctor never should be offended by someone getting a second opinion, but it sounds like Abita was getting the run around from the new hospital.  It's surprising what patients have to go through to get a doctor to listen to them.

    The clinic should be able to send all that for you.  If not, it isnt that difficult to get them.  just takes a little time and a little more to carry with you.  The tissue samples are sent by the lab to the clinic, you don't carry them.

    My husband

    had to get everything himself, he had to go to each department and get the copies no one would send it. Except the tissue samples he had to give his permission, the Sloan had to call to get them.
