I already knew that but I just got formal letter from Imagining Dept stating it makes it harder to detect issues and HIGHER RISK of cancer. OTHER THEN that all good..!

    I have dense breasts too.

I have dense breasts too. That is why my onco has me get an ultrasound and a MRI besides the mammogram.  Congrats on the all good!

    Congrats Denise!!!

I was going to my Breast specialist for 12 years getting mammos and ultrasounds every 6 months. They were completely useless!

You are lucky your Dr orders an MRI.

The MRI with contrast was the only test that showed my cancer. It only showed it in one breast and not the other and I had it in both and I was a Stage 2. I also have triple negative BC and if I listened to my Dr and went home that day I would not be here typing to you now.

I wish I knew all that before I would have never had another mammo or ultrasound again...it was a waste of time for me and it almost cost me my life!

If you are dense just get the MRI with contrast.

You will be safer that way!!!

    My doctor also always orders

My doctor also always orders a MRI along with the mammogram and ultrasound.  I hate the MRI's, but, I know how important they are.

    Having dense breasts does

Having dense breasts does make it harder to detect.  I am glad I get an annual MRI now with my other tests.  Insurance companies don't like paying for them, but, too bad.  They are life savers!

Just read this, thank you for

Just read this, thank you for sharing. I am 40 and starting two years ago i have suspicious microcalcifications unchanging they removed two sets both benign but cannot get them from my chest wall. I have very dense tissue and the mri I had a year ago showed a mass they believe is a fibroadenoma. My mom and grandmother have had BC and they said I am to be monitored every 6 months. I cant explain how unsettled I feel recently. Something doenst feel right...but feeling but maybe fear. I am thinking of asking my doctor to remove the fibroadenoma and try to test the calcs. They have told me no so many times because they cant get to them. It's scary they cant see the mass on the ultrasound and say calcs are concerning but we just wait for a change. Thoughts???

dense breast tissue and surgery decision

I am very early in the decision making process. Just diagnosed in past 1.5 weeks. Now being asked to decide on lumpectomy versus unilateral/bilateral mastectomy with likely Stage 2 IDC in right breast. No nodes on MRI. I also have very dense breasts. I know dense breasts are not an indication for a mastectomy. I don't like the idea of being scared every year becasue they MIGHT see something suspicious on MRI. My fibrocystic disease lit up on the MRI. Hate to think I am going to have to have repeated biopsies when they are not sure what something is. Not psyched about the prospect of mastectomy, let alone bilateral mastectomy. Not sure what to do. I know it is up to me and to do what is best for me - but I think a crystal ball would be SUPER helpful right now.

Has anyone else been in this situation?

    In January 2016 I was

In January 2016 I was diagnosed with Stage 2 IDC ER/PR+ in my left breast with no lympnode involvement. I decided almost immediately on as mastectomy but after several discussions with my oncologist and surgeon decided on a lumpectomy, chemo, and radiation. They told me that my chances of a recurrence were the same regardless. Also the recovery with a lumpectomy would be shorter. I never regretted my choice because you're going to be scared for quite a while. It does get less with time but every time a check-up rolls around there's that feeling of dread. I wish you all the best and I hope you will choose what feels right for you, not what anyone thinks you should do.

I am right there with you.

I am right there with you.  diagnosed 2 weeks ago same thing 2 small spots, not even lumps then found 3rd small one on MRI.  No nodes involved .  Mom died of Breast cancer when I was 16.  NOt suer what she had.  She had a large lump she let go for too long.   I am now 54 with a 16 year old at home and sincerely do not know what to do.  Waiting for first oncology visit next week to see path of treatment.  Not bad enough we have the disease now have to feel like our womanhood is being stripped away.
