I had lovenox once a day for

I had lovenox once a day for about 2 weeks. As someone who had a pulmonary embolism 10years ago its a small price to pay. You don’t want one believe me.

I appreciate your explanation about the vaginal cuff. So the internal stiches (sorry for my ignorance) are closing what area? They look pretty strong to dissolve themselves! Sealed

    Stitches

Pato58, There are usually two layers of stitches-stitches that are not visiblue that hold muscles together and then stitches that are external that can be seen that keep the skin together. The external stitches in some cases can be metal staples or surgical adhesive (glue). Depending on how many incisions you had to allow the laparoscopic instruments to be inserted into your pelvis or abdomen to remove your uterus and cervix- you may have had a combination of sutures that dissolve and those that don’ t dissolve and or surgical glue. There probably are videos of laparoscopic or “DaVinci” surgical removal of the uterus and cervix on YouTube on the Internet. Probably not for the “faint of heart”.  If you have sutures in the opening of your vaginal “vault” then there must have been part of your surgical procedure that as via your vaginal opening.

Believe me, I am OK with the shots!
Forgive for the question, were you overweight at the time of surgery? I am at least 45 pounds over myself.
I called the nurse today, and I got the answer "because of my weight, I have to have them twice a day"; but, twice a day for 1 month?Undecided

I was overweight at the time

I was overweight at the time of my surgery. I'm 5' 7.5" and had crept up close to 190# by the then (age, stress, bad habits, exercise, etc -- all the known culprits). My picture, here, was taken 3 months before diagnosis. After surgery I was in the low 170-higher 160 range and I had to do the shots 1x day for a month. The nurses's response makes sense in that dosages are usually calculated to body volume, which includes both height and weight.

    Dear derMaus,

you made me smile as I am very overweight but my height is 4ft 11inch, quite short.
So, you lost like 20 pounds after surgery!
How are you feeling these days?
    Hugs

    Pato, I’m sorry I probably

Pato, I’m sorry I probably made it sound like a lecture. I wasn’t overweight at the time of surgery because I lost about 30 lbs in the few months before surgery. When I had the blood clot 20 years ago I had had abdominal surgery, but wasn’t given anything to prevent clots. I think that the shots are much more common now after this type of surgery, but Im hyper vigilant about clots now as it was one of the scariest episodes in my life. After my first chemo I took a short trip a week later and I was prescribed the shots again. Chemo tends to make the blood thicker.

    Yes I lost 20#, probably

Yes I lost 20#, probably around 10# from stress from my diagosis and my mother having died 6 weeks earlier, and 10# from having my diseased uterus removed.

    I had Lovenox

I'm overweight as well - 5'5" and about 175 pounds.  I was given the lovenox once a day for 14 days because I have a heart arrhythmia.  I lost 15 pounds during the month after surgery, and gained 15 during chemo - which I have kept, unfortunately!

    Hi MugsBugs

I also had robotic surgery. So, did they not recommend Lovenox shots to you, not even once a day?
I also have the 5 incisions across my belly ( I actually thought they looked like nipples, hahaha)

    Lovenox shots

I had a complete hysterectomy before chemo/radiation and my husband had to give me the shots (I had a total of 30, once a day).  My Dr. said it was to prevent blood clots as well. It worked because I didn't get any! (I could not do the shots myself, but my husband said "I have given cattle shots before, I can do it" lol I said "what am I, a heifer?" I sure counted down the days. (we alternated between the stomach and thigh, since I have more fat in the thigh).
