Freezing cancer in lung

in Colorectal Cancer #1

I have met cancer in my left lung from my colon.  The onco said they were thinking about using a freezing procedure on the growth.  Does anyone know anything about this procedure ?

    Cryoablation

    It sounds like your Onc wants you to have a cryoablation. Where they go in and freeze the tumour, killing it. 

    I had a thermal microwave ablation, which is where they go in and burn to kill the tumour. 

    I believe there are folks on the forum who have had cryoablation on their lungs, and they'll be along to tell you what its ll about. 

    Meanwhile, I wish you well, as you move to the next step in your treatment.

    Lung ablation techniques

    Hi

    The cryo ablation technique has some advantages over techniques that use heat (radio frequency & microwave ablation) - its more easiy imaged during the procedure(ice) so the doc's can position the instuments more accurately and it leaves some of the tissue structure intact(less damage, but equally efficient).

    If cryo is suitable for you, it sounds like a good solution - but I am no expert, I've just read a little about it.

    I had cryo ablation September 2017

    The procedure went well, it was performed on an outpatient basis.  I coughed up blood for  few days and felt fine after that.  I went back to business as normal, and must have overdone it, because I  a week later I went in for a routine scheduled CT scan and found out that my lung had collapsed.  I didn't have any pain from it and was just a little short of breath which I thought was from the procedure.   My doctor called and told me to go to the ER and I was hospitalized with a tube in my lung for about 3 days.  It healed normally after that.  

    So just a warning that you should limit your activity until completely healed.
