Recent articles (updated)
Once again, from the "for what it's worth" department, here are recent articles that might be interesting to some:
Frequent follow up may not matter:
In this randomized clinical trial that included 2509 patients with stage II or III colorectal cancer, follow-up testing with computed tomography and serum carcinoembryonic antigen on 5 vs 2 occasions did not result in a significant difference in the 5-year overall mortality rate (13.0% vs 14.1%, respectively) or colorectal cancer–specific mortality rate (10.6% vs 11.4%). https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2681744
Diet matters:
Processed meats as classified by PCA (HR 1.82; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.07-3.09), clusters characterized by meat and dairy products (HR 2.19; 95% CI 1.03-4.67) and total grains, sugar, soft drinks (HR 1.95; 95% CI 1.13-3.37) were associated with a higher risk of cMRM. Poor adherence to AltMED increased the risk of all-cause OM (HR 1.62; 95% CI 1.04-2.56). Prudent vegetable, high sugar pattern, RFS and DII had no significant association with both OM and cMRM. https://nutritionj.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12937-018-0362-x
Vitamins A and E:
A higher intake of [Vitamin A] and [Vitamin E] was found to be associated with 52 and 43% reduction in CRC risk. The ORs of the highest quartile compared with the lowest quartile intake were 0.48 (95% CI: 0.31, 0.73, P trend<0.01) for VA and 0.57 (95% CI: 0.37, 0.88, P trend<0.01) for VE.
Okay, I laughed at this one, but hey, I have learned not to judge:
Siamese crocodile white blood cell extract inhibits cell 1 proliferation and promotes autophagy in multiple cancer cell lines. http://www.jmb.or.kr/journal/viewJournal.html?doi=10.4014/jmb.1712.12002
