Advice, please! 79 year old with 4 cm leision in kidney
Hi!! My 79 year old mother had the results from an ultrasound posted online yesterday before she had a dr visit. The Report says, she has a 4.0 x2.8 x3.5 mass on the lower pole of her left kidney.. There is vascular flow within the lesion which is suspicious for primary renal carcinoma. On prior imaging( a year ago) lesion measured 2.8 x 2.9 cm, suggestive of interval increase in size. Last year urologist said she should “watch and wait.” My question is, should the doctor ad suggested we wait and see what happens? After reading through the posts on here all night, I am a little frustrated we didn’t do something last year...

A number of things for the doctor to consider
Mic,
Somewhere I read at least 5 years ago that they were questioning surgery on Kidney Tumors under 4 cm for patients over 65 because of the risk of surgery. Do discuss your mothers prediciment with the Urologist as well as her internist and/or cardiologist. Normally if she was a little younger kidney surgery would be routine for a 4 cm tumor with a good recovery ezpeccted.
