Understanding CT Results - Ovarian Masses
My mother recently had a CT scan for abdominal pressure they thought was diverticulitis, and found ovarian masses. I've tried to search some of the medical terms included in the CT analysis to better understand as the 3-day wait for her CA-125 results/oncology appointment has been gut wrenching. This is for my own understanding as I don't want to confuse or worry her further.
Findings:
New bilateral heterogeneously enhancing adnexal/ovarian masses. Left adnexal mass 5x9 x 6.5 cm. Right adnexal mass solid component at least 6.1 x 4.9 cm.
Moderate abdonimal pelvic ascites. Mild anterior omnetal nodularity. Liver, spleen, pancreas kidneys and adrenal glands have normal CT appearance.
Impression:
New bilateral ovarian/adnexal heterogenous masses with moderate abdominal pelvic ascites probable omental caking. Compatible with neoplasm until proven otherwise.
From my initial search, many of these key phrases indicate a malignancy and do not look good. I am not a doctor, though. If anyone has experience interpreting these or could shed some light (hopefully a hopeful light), that would be incredible.
I appreciate you taking the time to read.
Thank you.

mjlama, please try to take a breath. I am not a doctor so I would suggest making sure she has a good gynecologic oncologist and get a ;ist of questions ready. She will need your support as she moves forward. I realize how terrifying this is and please let us know what is planned going forward.

CT report
Hi Mjlama,
I'm sorry this is so difficult. Waiting is sometimes the hardest part.
Your mom has scan results that could be indicative of ovarian or some related type of cancer. But quite honestly, even doctors will tell you they can't make a diagnosis until they do surgery. Your mom's next step would be to find the right kind of specialist, which as NTFC tells you, is a gynecologic oncologist. This type of specialist has expertise in treating gynecologic cancers, and if she does have cancer, her results will be much better if she is under the care of one of these experts. Even if your mom does end up being diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she may do very well with the necessary treatment. Many women acheive remission with this disease and go on to live long lives. This is one of life's lessons where you have to learn to take it one day at a time. You can't really make plans unitl you know what is going on, and, unforrunately, that takes time.
I hope all goes will with her appointment.

And this is what the English translation says. So far my oncologist has NOT recommended Cialis to improve any aspect
of my Stage IVb Ovarian cancer! So for me this post is irrelevant.

Need help understanding my U/S
Sorry if this is a long message but I want to give some history also. I am 44 years old. I had a hystorectomy last May 2017 due to having 2 large fybroids growing. The OB left my ovaries as he sated I was to young to take them out. About 2 months ago I Atypical ductal hyperplasia in the left breast and had a lumpectomy done. I was suppose to start Tamoxifen but then came down with mondors disease and have not started it yet. Over the last 2 weeks I have been having a lot of abdominal pain. I have PCOS so I am use to having cyts but this pain is different so I called the doctor and had a CT scan, she was concerned with a cyst on the left ovary so did an U/S which showed an enlarged left ovary with a 4.4cm complex cyst with no significant free fluid. Wondering if anyone can give me their opion on what this might mean for me. This was all from my PCP I have requested and appointment with my OB/GYN as my PCP wanted to wait 3 months and rechech but I don't feel like waiting especially since I am having pain. Thank you

Hi klhauff,
It sounds like you have a lot going on. I don't think waiting 3 months is a good idea. You need answers and to find out what is going on. I think it is good that you will be seeing your OB/GYN. Hopefully your doctor will order a CA-125 blood test, as this measures a marker caused by ovarian cancer. Other conditions can also cause an elevated CA-125, including PCOS, but it is a good place to start. If your OB/GYN suspects cancer, you want to be referred to a gynecologic oncologist. This is the type of specialist you would need to perform surgery.
I hope you get in to see your OB/GYN soon and this all turns out to be something minor.

thank you for the response. Yes a lot going on! My husband wants to know why I keep getting all these tumors/cysts growing. We have been lucky thus far that we have been getting them early but one of these times my luck is going to run out. The doctor said this one is definitely not related to a normal PCOS cyst so that is what has us concerned and why I am not willing to wait 3 months. Thanks again for the response hopefully I hear from the OB/GYNs office today.

Hi, Klhauff,
Yes, order blood marker test is a good idea. But I want to add not all ovarian cancer patients will have elevated CA-125. For me, that marker is completely normal at 21. I have instead the elevated CA-153. I ordered CEA and CA-199 as well. The only one that is elevated is CA-153.
Hope you can make your appointment soon.
