Hi all,

you likely have seen the recent news coverage of viagra's affects on reducing colon polyps by 1/2.  There is also an NIH study that shows it reduces colon cancer tumor sizes and arrests growth in mice (this study was published in 2015 so the study was likely done in 2013-14).  So it appears that this drug might benefit humans with actual tumors in addition to humans who may get polyps.  Armed with this knowledge where might I go next to help my Dad who is in stage 4?  Nothing has worked for him thus far and my Dad has stopped seeing his Onch.  I am not sure that he wants to try anything else but he migh consider something with no side effects.   Viagra in small doses apparently does not have any side effects.  Who should we talk to next to see about giving hm this drug as he has stopped seeing the traditional Docs?

    Any GP should prescribe it if he asks and qualifies, healthwise. Does he take the baby aspirin, that's been used for similar purpose. I haven't had another polyp in 10 1/2 years, since diagnosis and starting to take it................................Dave

    [W]e investigated that the anticancer effect of sildenafil on human colorectal cancer in vitro and in vivo, which is a potent and selective inhibitor of PDE5 for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension in the clinic. Sildenafil significantly induced cell growth inhibition, cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of human colorectal cancer with increased intracellular reactive oxidative specie (ROS) levels, which were accompanied by obvious alterations of related proteins such as CDKs, Cyclins and PARP etc. Pretreatment with ROS scavenger N-acetyl-L-cysteine could reverse sildenafil-induced ROS accumulation and cell apoptosis. Inhibition of the activity of protein kinase G with KT-5823 could enhance sildenafil-induced apoptosis. Furthermore, sildenafil caused the reduction of xenograft models of human colorectal cancer in nude mice. Overall, these findings suggest that sildenafil has the potential to be used for treatment of human colorectal cancer.

    The present studies focused on the ability of the phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitor sildenafil to enhance the anti-cancer properties of clinically relevant concentrations of the dietary diarylheptanoid curcumin. In gastrointestinal tumor cells, sildenafil and curcumin interacted in a greater than additive fashion to kill.

    Hi Sandia Buddy,  ty, that is the article I was referencing.  In addition to this compelling study, the other positive effects of sildenafil regarding colon cancer have been all over the news the last few days,  I am surprised there are not additional forum discussions.  Seems like this is pretty big colon cancer news...hmm
