Straining & pushing to void
For some time in order to pee, there are times I have to push and strain. I can go hours before any sensation of needing to pee occurs. Is this serious? It has been about 10 months since my prostatectomy/diverticulotomy. I told my urologist about these conditons, and he has schedulted me for another urodynamic study and possible cystocopy a couple of months before my one year anniversary. I have had many of these tests done. He is wondering if a stricture is forming. Could the stricture make my incontinence worse? Can treatment make it worse? I have had a complicated bladder history before my surgery, and incontinence is not new to me. A little curious as to what he will find.

Area of reattachment of the urethra
I am also curious on the results of the cystoscopy. The issues you talk about typically refer to the area of reattachment of the urethra to the bladder sphincter. This is a delicate place to treat and any over cutting may lead to permanent incontinence. You may get improvements just for the fact of inserting the cystoscope. It may clean any scar and improve urine flow.
Best wish and luck in the issue.

I just had another urodynamic study to determine the cause of my retention and incontinence after my prostatectomy almost a year ago. I past the test with flying colors other than the fact that my urethral sphincter doesn't relax enough to completely empty my bladder. I can hold between 500-600ml. before I feel the sensation that my bladder is filling. It was suggested that I try physical therapy to try and relax the bladder. I did not know there was such a treatment. What is it? How is it done? If it is designed to relax the sphincter, could it make incontinence worse? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Kegels
They call it "kegels". I do not think that by exercising you would put into jeopardy incontinence. In fact this is also recommended to improve the blocking of urine at the sphincter. It goes both ways.
You can find details goggling "Kegels".
