Intraoperative Radiation Therapy
Hello friends,
My 77-year-old mom was just diagnosed with Stage 1 IDC, grade 3, breast cancer, HER2+. She goes in for lumpectomy on Friday. If lymph nodes are clear, they will try intraoperative radiation therapy during surgery. Has any one here recently had experience with this? I did a quick search and only found something from 2012. Appreciate any advice or feedback. They say it has a 4% vs. 1% recurrence rate, but for her age it will help protect her heart and some other side effects.
Thank you.

I have had it
Hi imalonso,
I'm an iteresting case. In fact I've had traditional radiation ( six weeks five days a week)with my first breast cancer in 2009 and just recently had IORT with my second bout this past June. I can tell you that the intra operative radition was so much easier both mentally and physically. Love Surf
