New Old Medicine

My life change 18 months ago, I have been diagnosed with 4 stage prostate cancer. I’m a retired pilot and just in the last 3 years I have witness the pain and struggle of 2 friends and colleagues battling they illness. I didn’t want to submit myself to conventional treatments. I must admit when my wife suggested to see a physician who practice integrative medicine I was not convinced about this approach. Dr. RP Marquez treat me with UKRYN FORTE, a combination of natural molecules and today after one and half year of treatments all my tests are normal. I still not understand why doctors don’t tell normal peoples like me that most of cancer treatment come from natural substances…. new old medicines….

    Facts on Old New Medicine

    Is the first time I post a humble comment inherent to my personal survival condition …after all I think this a CANCER SURVIVORS NETWORK and my comment, in my opinion, I’m not  myself an expert, my story until the present day is a survival  story: the oncologist who almost 2 years ago diagnose my stage 4 prostate cancer, politely told me to get my things in order because I will have just few months left. Furthermore, still asking my self why the benefits of the Old New Medicine are not being told by the medical industry. The below mention is not belonging to me, again I’m not a doctor, but still can analyse and questioning myself why certain true and facts are not of public domain.

    THE IMPORTANCE OF NATURAL PRODUCTS IN ANTICANCER MEDICINE SEGMENT

    Natural products and their derivatives compounds represent more than 50% of all the drugs in modern therapeutics [1] and Today, approximately 80% of antimicrobial, cardiovascular, immunosuppressive, and anticancer drugs are of plant origin [2]. Mother Nature, the master of craftsman of molecules created almost an inexhaustible array of molecular entities. It stands as an infinite resource for drug development, novel chemotypes and pharmacophores, and scaffolds for amplification into efficacious drugs for a multitude of disease indications and other valuable bioactive agents [3] According to Newman and Cragg [4] the utility of natural products as sources of novel structures is still alive and well. Up to 50% the approved drugs during the last 30 years are from either directly or indirectly from natural products and in the area of cancer, over the time frame from around the 1940s to date, of the 175 small molecules 85 actually being either natural products or directly derived there from [5].

    Happy for you.

    Although I am happy for your apparent success, I don't really understand your comments. The overwhelming majority of drugs  are derived from natural sources. Commonly drug companies find ways to produce pure amounts of the active ingredients and introduce quality control in the manufacturing process. I don't know why you would expect your physician to state that.

    Thanks for the observation, Cowboy.  As a guy who began his cancer treatment career with a different cancer (Lymphoma) that is treated ONLY with chemo combinations, I know that most chemotherapy drugs are derived straight from plant material:  Tree bark, ground plant stems, -- stuff like that.

    The differentiation among many between "natural" and "artificial" treatments is itself usually arbitrary and artificial, and  not scientifically based.
