Dry then not dry
It has been 8 months since my combined prostatectomy/diverticulotomy, and I'm still dealing with the unpredictable incontinence. I can go several days without much of an issue, then it flares up again. I'm to the point where I should always wear a diaper just in case. Is that a normal feeling to have? I can deal with it, but it would be nice to know if it will be long lasting. The uncertainty causes a lot of anxiety. In addition, I have not had any life in my penis since the surgery. Little Richard has become more of a decorative attachment.

Need more time
Hi,
At 8 months I would think you should give it more time. Depending on how much damage was done when they removed your prostate it might take longer than 8 months to heal. It took me about 8-12 months to get out of diapers and another year after that with a light pad which I wear today. Today I feel that I am about where I was before surgery. I would be more concerned about the progress(being dryer) than the time. As long as you show progress(month to month, not week to week) you should be heading down the right track. Healing can be a slower than exspected process but hopefully you will get better over the next several months. Hopefully "little Richard" will start showing signs of life, it's a slow process and little Richard will need all the help from your partner to spring back to life. Use it or loose it is really true with this type of surgery, little Richard going to need a lot of help to get better, but then that sounds like fun to me.

I wonder what you are doing to improve sexual health. Daily cialis? trimex injections?, vacumm pump, sexual activity? There are doctors who specialize in sexual health, ie. John Mulhall

Hi Paul,
As you heal you will feel all kinds of wierd pains and strange bladder goings-ons, should start to fade as time goes on. As far as the burning sensataion in the scrotum area it might be a diaper rash kind of thing if its on the outside. Get a good anti-fungal powder made for jock itch on your private parts. I use Lotrimin Antifungal Powder every once in a while, seems to work and I get it at Wallmart.

Urologists
Still don't understand why urologists are not briefing their patients on recovery time.
Incontinence... 3 to 6 months to show improvement, up to a year or more for complete recovery.
ED... 1 to 2 years recovery time... But drawing blood into corpus cavernosum through vacuum pump, trimix, cialis, etc. is sometimes necessary in a regular basis.
Can Little Richard play "Lucille" on the piano like his namesake? Never mind, I just imagined the worst image... :P
I call mine "Stubby" now, for obvious reasons.

Guess im lucky--very minor leakage-think it can probably be taken care of with tissues in the underwear. These diapers and guards are so cumbersome-i cant button my trousers!! I think that is what is adding to scrotum discomfort. At the 4 week mark still no movement from Willie--a little concerned as i use to get hard at the drop of a hat. Start small doses of viagara tomorrow--supposedly saved left side of nerves-keeping fingers crossed.

after a rather smooth rp i am happy to report i have no trace of cancer after first psa test. No pain, minor leakage, and nothing yet with willie ,but am happy that the most important reason for the surgery route has worked out.
